Autumn at Brodie

Yesterday Mrs MB announced that we were off for a walk, to me as well as the to the rest of GoYland, and as the fields were so wet we just walked down the road

through the gateway

and up to Brodie castle

Leading away from the castle is a broad, tree lined driveway

leading onto the pond

The pond was built in the 1800’s by the wife of the then Brodie but I expect that the estate workers lent the occaisional hand. About fifteen years ago the pond was badly silted and a troop of Gurkas came up and cleaned it out. When they got to the bed of the pond they found that it was actually paved with cobble stones although these are no longer visible.
The pond is a haven for wildlife but the monarch is, of course, the swan.

One of the reasons for walking up to the castle was to look at the autumn colour and these birch trees didn’t let us down.

The very essence of autumn! Looks like one of those crisp, clear, bright days, fantastic colours on the trees.

Thanks for all your nice comments. Yes, I do feel blessed for being drawn to live in such a beautiful area. It is really rewarding.
I used to get notified of new responses to my blogs by e-mail but that seems to have ceased?

A nice walk. Are you sure she wasn't prospecting for more land? :-)

Thanks, Bob. It must have become unchecked last time I changed my avatar. I didn't notice.
Andrew, there is a wonderfull area of walled garden, huge, where Brodie used to to cultivate his daffodils. It is now 'lying fallow' and they just mow the grass. Far too big for one person to deal with but I have always thought that it could make marevellous allotments for a group.

The GOY Scottish Group perhaps?

We've recently come back from another walk - before it starts raining, again, I'll see if there are any nice pix for you all.

Beautiful :)))

GoY is such a good motivator to get out & take pix, isn't it? Not everyone has a castle just around the corner, conveniently groomed by somebody else for us to enjoy!

This area of Scotland has lots of castles Orgratis

Reading up on the background of Llandudno from Sid's blog on Bodnant, MG, I got sidetracked by the history of Edward's defenses vs wild and woolly Welsh. Now I had to look up castlesuk.net to peak into all the castles around Moray, plus then browsed the electrichistory of Scotland from the 12th C on...Will have to get some books to bone up, as don't like prolonged reading on screen, but thanks for piquing my interest in more than just the gardens!

You're welcome Orgratis - the National Trust for Scotland has quite a few castle properties in Aberdeenshire. Then there is Cawdor Castle near Nairn and lord knows how many others...

If GoYers would like Mr MB & I can visit some of these next year and put up blogs about the gardens (and show a pix or two of the castles). If the weather is fine we'll try for Cawdor at the weekend.
