Work In Progress and A Couple Of Visitors

Such a strange day today. The sky was filled with ominous dark grey clouds all day and there were a couple of very, very light showers that passed over quite quickly. Unfortunately the rain literally disappeared before it hit the ground!

This photo was taken during the lightest of light showers of rain! You’ll notice there’s no evidence at all of raindrops on the pavers.

Spent some of today working on re-vamping the area under the pergola, beside the pond. All the ferns have been ripped out and the palms cut back and removed. I’m working on making it a much more colourful space.

Last night we had a visitor. The Brush-tailed Possum (Trichosurus vulpecular) sat and watched us in the kitchen for a while before heading off into the night searching for food.

During the day we had another type of visitor hanging about. The Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novoguineae) was literally sitting on an old gum tree near the house for quite a while keeping an eye on our comings and goings.

Thank you BB for the interesting blog...your patio area looks quite Mediterranean...what a handsome kookaburra it is.Wonderful wildlife you have..we will all be much more genned up about your part of the world. We have relatives in Adelaide which is far different from where you are living.

We love our patio/courtyard area and spend a lot of time out there. There's quite a bit of alfresco dining that happens out there.

Yes, Adelaide is very different to my corner of Oz. It's a 28 hour drive away from us, over 2500 kilometres. I've been there a couple of times and really liked the city a lot.

Bb, some years back there was a hilarious film on TV about
Kookaburras. There was a flock near a house & the noise they made, throwing themselves up into the air as they did it, was horrendous. You wouldn’t want that to wake you up each morning. Also we watched all the live stuff which they pushed down their young’s throats, lizards, frogs, great big bugs etc. Then they had to be taught to make their cry & one wouldn’t do it( just burped), next was a flying lesson, again one wouldn’t jump off the branch so Dad came along & whacked it from behind. I wish I had a recording of it. It was very funny, but not something
be watched while enjoying a TV dinner, unless you have a strong stomach.

I've never seen that show Feverfew. Sounds like a hoot! I have to say that the kookaburras wake up call every morning is now just background noise to us. When we have visitors though, there are complaints!!! The Laughing Kookaburras are very noisy when you're not used to their call. I've also seen kookaburras eating toads and snakes and neither was a great sight!

I like the reworked space BB, it looks very light and airy now, ready for summer!
Seeing the wildlife especially the Kookaburra takes me straight back to my son's. They're quite tame too aren't they, I know the kookaburras like to sit on their balcony rail and just watch them..:))
