True Clarice, the rain hasn't stopped; and it has done the garden some good. I planted bedding over the weekend and it had to be watered in otherwise it would have withered. But I don't understand how they can say we will have a ban after all the snow we had!! lol.

lol. lots of rain here today!

True, but it showed some of the resivours(spelled that wrong) and they are very very low.

its them Clarice not storing enough water for when its really needed and all those burst pipes.

Sorry to hear you have a shortage of water. It must be a worry for you. We have plenty. I passed a resevoir not far from here last week and it was full to the brim. I hope it stays like that.
Maybe we'll have a wet summer like last year :o)

Oh,dear, thats bad news.Maybe another water butt then...I already save everything I can,as I hate wasting water anyway..Maybe if the powers that be,supplied waterbutts free,or at a reduced price, people may give more thought to saving it.We all had the offer of free compost bins by our council, years ago,and it was definitely a winner..

Well not got one yet Hywel but we had a very Spring really, but the way its going it looks like we will get one.

Oh dear Clarice thats bad news, we are very lucky where I live and never have actual bans, I was pleased to get some rain though, although it didn`t have to turn so cold with it.......
1 Jun, 2010
It was cold here aswell, think last time we had water ban here was 1976. so we have had a good run up to yet....

Yes, me too Lincslass. Can't think that there's ever been a ban here thank goodness, and we don't pay a separate charge for our water either. I've had the hose on loads because it's been so dry and what with the new trees etc.....you have to keep them damp. Hope they don't put us on a meter or I'll be 'scuppered' as they say here!
1 Jun, 2010
That will make 2 of us if they do that Karen :o)))

lol! :))

well if we get told theres a water ban i shall scream, because we should not have had the rain until about 3pm this afternoon,
Guess what about 10:30 this morning it was flinging it down with water and it has not stopped .I know the plants need the water , but i want to get some more of my plants in the ground

We haven't had any real rain for ages we had a downpour on Saturday on and off , but we are badly in need of it the water tubs are running dry , the new lawn seed hasn't grown through lack of water .. we are on a water meter so you have to think twice about the amount you use in fact i'm on the lookout for one of those huge water containers that holds about 400 gallons ... anybody !!
1 Jun, 2010
Both my water butts have been empty for ages, but lucky i'm not on metre, hope you find a bigger water butt.
1 Jun, 2010
Im like you Amy.A water meter does make you more careful, but I was before we had one anyway,as its just such a waste, letting it run down the drain,if some of it could be saved. My water butts are empty too.I must admit,I try to have more plants that are drought tolerant now,but of course, the Veg need plenty....

doesnt surprise me in the least carol, dont have all this abroad, they need to put all our hard earned money into saving rain water , we pay enough, really winds me up grrr, if they do i use bath, shower and washing up water, doesnt harm

If you look back over the years we've suffered very few actual shortages, just the hype. I believe there are two reasons why we're 'short'. One population growth from third world countries and the other privatised water companies who's first responsibility is profit for the share holders. What better way than to charge us by the litre. Yes I know they say it's cheaper but once we're all on a meter do you really think it will remain cheaper.
1 Jun, 2010
also all the water wasted by the united utilaties not fixing all the leaky unground pipes, i watched a program on it, thousands of gallons of water just running away, and millions profit every year, not good
1 Jun, 2010
its been a dry May apparently. So I am pleased we have had a good downpour.
1 Jun, 2010
It`s amazing at how quick the garden dries out, we`ve already been syphoning bath water to the water butts !
1 Jun, 2010
theres a pipe leaking up my road and its been reported and thats from jan, they just care about money
2 Jun, 2010
i bet all the numpties who demand the hosepipe ban will be using theirs
2 Jun, 2010
I have always felt like Heron that once we are all on the meter system they will be able to blackmail us into charging whatever they like we won't have a choice ... we have been looking at some 1000 litre containers and are hoping to find out more about getting one this week ... ..

As someone living alone I found that having a water meter halved my costs. I am still very careful and have just installed a two-butt linked system (thanks to ideas seen on GoY). I also have a third water butt for the front garden. We did have rain on Saturday but not enough to penetrate very far. Hope it doesn't come to a hose pipe ban for you and others, Clarice.

A wise move Amy. Gee, you're on a good thing at the moment but can you remember when North sea gas was cheap, that was before millions had it put in. I refused to vote for Mrs T after she sold our nation's water. yes the facilities belong to the likes of 'United Utilities' but who owns the water ? Anyway it's discriminating against gardeners who obviously use more than townies who buy their veg from Tesco.
2 Jun, 2010
Never had gas wherever I've lived, Heron, and none in this village either! I do know I pay through the nose for electricity because I have no choice :(
2 Jun, 2010
I'm on oil for heating Gee19, so I do have some control over the cost as I've a large tank and can buy when it's cheaper (in theory) one thing that we can be sure of is that energy is going to get dearer, shorter too. I remember Gardener's World telling us to grow plants that like dry conditions, that was before last summer lol
We're all at the mercy of the 'experts'
