Clementine's Sanctuary

I haven’t a clue how to do this, neither can I figure out how to answer someone who has commented on a photo of mine. I shall hopefully soon sort it out.
We normally have hot summers and the threat of wildfires is always present. Due to a few days of heavy rains we may be lucky this season.
I changed one of my garden rooms, the one containing a pond and am still trying to sort it out. An enormous Linden tree died (Lime) which shaded the garden and the summer house adjacent to it this making all my shade-loving plants unsuitable. I planted a Magnolia last summer and have changed the whole area to suit it so any photos are not my ideal but the path to it.
This is my first blog ever.

A fantastic garden, looks very 'English' even though you are in Canada. I see you have 20 acres, how on earth do you manage that? I thought our 2 hectares was more than enough. And everything in your garden looks so neat and well managed, yet natural.

Welcome and all best wishes.

Really lovely Clementine, especially for a first blog. Your garden looks so much like an English country garden - very cottage -y.
As for thanking people who have commented on your photos, well its obviously easy here, but otherwise you could go to your photos, then go through them and there is a place to comment on the comments there.
Is that what you mean Clementine.? So just click onto your homepage and then your photos.
PS I have just looked on your photos on your homepage and see you have already done that, so you must mean the blog page where this is. We'll see your comments soon I'm sure.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments.
we live in a very rural area, the closest neighbour 1/4 mile away. It is all forest but for the cleared fields and gardens. A lady on our road, whose house is actually in the trees, had three young grizzly bears in her chicken house yesterday morning. My husband, when walking this morning encountered her and a friend with whom she had stayed overnight due to bears. The bears are still there, Half the chickens gone to greener pastures. Our houses here are all built of wood and present no challenge for a bear who wishes to enter.
I came to Canada from London when I was 28 so that is why you have an impression of an English garden.
PicC, I think the clematis to which you refer is Blue Light. I have over thirty clematis plants, some repeats. A favourite is Perle d'Azure of which I have four, all from the one plant.
The clematis above the mossy tree stump and fern is Maidwell Hall, a macropetala they bloom in the spring. Group A.
Bertiefox, I see you have complete control of your garden. We are trying a grass mulch on the potatoes this year. I know we shall have grass coming up next year like hair on a dog's back. We have access to sawdust from a mill up the road. One lone man who cuts trees into planks, nothing commercial.
Mad, thanks for your help in finding ways to comment.
Forgive me if I don't respond in the right places, it will take me a while.

Hi Clementine...I've only just noticed you are on GoY and wanted to say hello. I'm originally from B.C., living in the UK since 1983 so I did the opposite journey to you. You have a very large acreage and it looks beautiful...such lush bushes in your photos.
I'll look forward to hearing more about your garden.

Hello Whistonlass, you are the first person I have know to go from here to the UK. My sister is still over there. My mother died last October, over in the UK, knocked me off my feet and still recovering. The guilt of leaving!
I am still finding my way around here and have forgotten what I did learn earlier in the year. I have a lot of work outside but now catching up inside. It has been a case of preparing for winter before the ground freezes and the snows fall. We have to anticipate on having frozen ground before a snow blanket. Better being safe than sorry.
I wonder where you live in the UK. I was from London and so pleased to leave the city behind.

Hi Clementine....we are living near to Liverpool. It was our intention to move down south, likely to Somerset but it just didn't pan out for us. My hubby has a large family of siblings and several live very near to us which is really nice.
What part of B.C. are you living in? I assume it won't be the lower mainland of B.C. (I lived in Vancouver, Ladner and Bowen Island) as you mention frozen ground and a snow blanket.
It is hard when you have a death in the family and the ocean separates you. I've lost my dad, stepmom, nephew and sister since living here. I did feel guilty leaving my dad as he was already unwell when we emigrated, having had a disabling stroke. I'm sorry you had to go through all that with losing your mom...I know how the guilt can be hard to take but we each have to make a life for ourselves so I hope you are feeling better about it now.
How many years is it since you left the UK? Do you ever come back for holidays? Nice to "meet" you, Clementine :)

Hi Whistonlass, I am living on the Arrow Lakes, West Kootenays. I lived in Vancouver for two years and loved the city but I longed for the country although I found Vancouver a beautiful city. I have been to Bowen Island the odd weekend, it is a beautiful spot.
I docked in Montreal and took the train to Vancouver when I arrived. I couldn't believe the space. I planned on staying two years but I fell in love with the open spaces.
I left the UK when I was 28 years old. I have been back several times.
I am sorry about the losses you had after leaving here. It is hard, but as you say, we do have to make our own lives.
England has so many beautiful places and all within easy reach. This is my Canadian mind thinking this about the miles. I expect you are now into thinking distances the British way.
Nice to 'meet' you too.

Maybe you want to change a few things, but I really like this! It's very romantic, isn't it, with the fences and walls covered with flowers and vines.
