New Beginnings

The weather is just not nice this winter is it? It’s wet and grey. Not the conditions we like to work in, but if I don’t get my hands dirty in soil, my soul withers. So this morning I’ve squelched around in the clay and planted some Tete A Tete daffs, some white heathers and a decent sized Hydrangea petiolaris. I also found my three garden mosaics (made by Lou, some will remember Lou), and placed them at the front door. The new Coronilla is starting to come into flower, but I shall have to move the Hellebores soon as they are starting to fade. That will present me with an opportunity to add something nice and seasonal in that corner. I also planted three dwarf Blackberry plants in a tall pot. They are supposed to be lovely in a pot for summer fruit and I do love a BlackBerry. We’ll see how they go.
Anyway, that’s me started, and feeling a lot better for it. The Hebes and the Liriope plants were planted by the developer, along with a Portugal Laurel hedge, and front lawn. Some of my neighbours have loads of plants, courtesy of the developer, but they went a bit sparse on mine. I’m not bothered as it gives me the chance to make it my own. And they have planted up the border along the side of the house beautifully, so I shan’t complain!

A good start Karen. Sunshine here too, so I’m going for a walk 🙂.

So glad the sun came out for you. Love the sound of what you are putting in. Something is eating all my Tete a Tetes and I think it might be tiny flies. It is very annoying to see them torn to shreds!!

Think that's what we are all waiting for Karen, a bit of good weather but least you have a start, hasn't rained here in Plymouth for 1.5 days, so managed to get a few bits done myself, but as I was doing me little bits think I must have made a mental note of about a month's work needing doing, oh dear :) :)

Hope you enjoyed your walk Sheila. We went exploring the woods in front of our house. Bluebells and wild garlic peeping up above the soil! Cheered us right up!

Chris…that’s weird! I’ve never heard of Tete a tetes being eaten by insects. Very strange!

Thanks Klahanie.
Davey, we were so grateful for a little sunshine today. Boy it makes a world of difference doesn’t it?!

Karen you just can`t hold a good gardener back, despite the weather you`ve made a cracking start and you are getting colour in there already. Looking forward for more pics as you progress.

I know what you mean Karen! I love to get out in my garden and had one day of glorious sunshine, but now back to the dull cold weather!
This winter seems to have gone for ages!
Looking forward to seeing how your garden progresses.

a lovely start to your new garden. At least your developer has used some nice plants. The one that did my daughter's new home didn't.

You must have been quite excited to get out and get going in the garden, Karen! You've made a great start. Fun times ahead! Looking forward to your next set of pics!

I have planned what I am going to do for starters in my garden. But the very first thing I am going to do it being a highly charged election year here in the USA is to put lipstick on a pig statue that I have in my garden for an initial splash of colour.

Rose..hasn’t it just gone on and on? It’s pouring again here today.
Thanks SBG. Yes, some of the planting on the estate is very nice to be honest. They are doing a good job.
Thank you Kate. I don’t think there will be much going on now for a while, although I do have some. Bergenias on order for under my front hedge.
Loosestrife, don’t we all just love an election year! I saw a meme yesterday of a lorry load of sewage and it had painted on the back of it..”this lorry is full of politicians’ promises”.

Ha ha. I like that last bit Ck. You’ve made a good start in your garden, we will enjoy following its progress. I like the owl & plants in the pot.

Karen, I remember Lulu and her fabulous dogs. Do you keep in touch with her?
I have also had Narcissus flowers damaged, I think it is the tiny black slugs doing their work in this wet weather.
Yesterday we drove to Chichester and saw so many flooded fields, Swans and Ducks on some of them and cannot believe that out of town retail sites are being constructed within the area, absolute madness!
Raining yet again today so not a hope of any outdoor work ... really fed up with it now ... :o((

Thanks Feverfew. The back is such a mess at the moment. I hope the weather Improves soon. It’s just a quagmire.
Yes Shirley. I keep up with Lou on Facebook. She has a little Terrier called Tashi now and she lives in Malmesbury, about an hour from me. She’s still making beautiful mosaics.

Shirley, Chichester is somewhere I would love to visit. My Great Grandmother was born there. I think we will head off to Kingston Lacey tomorrow. The weather is getting everyone down. We actually had a dry day today with spells of sunshine. But it’s gone cold again. We need a break from working in the house though!

Karen, how lovely to still be in touch with Lulu.
When you do visit Chichester, take a look on-line at the City Highlights Guided Walks. I am sure you would find it fascinating.
It was 3 degrees last night, with six forecast for tonight, heavy rain all day tomorrow, so I now have gardening withdrawal symptoms!

Thanks Shirley! I do love a guided walking tour!
