The Beautiful Dorset Coast
11 comments
Well, we finally made it to the coast. Exactly one year since we moved permanently to Dorset! Mind you, this time last year it started raining and it didn’t stop until May! Remember that? But today couldn’t have been more lovely. Poor Willow did struggle a bit in the heat though. We will have to be a bit more careful with the old girl from now on. It takes almost exactly an hour to get from our house to Lulworth Cove, and then it’s a mile over the hill from there to Durdle Door. You don’t have to walk, but it seemed like a good idea at the time!
From the top you can clearly see Portland Bill, the harbour and Weymouth in the distance. It really brings home how big the county is and what a far-reaching stretch of coastline. I really love the rolling hills and the chalk downs.
Next time Weymouth I think. But let’s hope it doesn’t end up being another year!

Wow it looks beautiful Karen! I couldn't have waited so long I must admit. It's a stunning area and so much on your doorstep, thanks for sharing..:)
Sheila, a gorgeous place to grow up. It made me smile reading Lilliput, I often call Lottie that as she's so small..:))

Thanks for sharing this Karen. I loved all your photos.
I hope it's not too long when you get to Weymouth.
Unfortunately too far for me to get to the south coast.

Thanks Sheila, Janey, Rose and FF. We decided to not brave the school holiday crowds, and what with all the tradesmen visiting to fix snagging issues, the babysitting and everything it has just taken this long. We did move house twice in six months too! We were going to visit Glastonbury today but I have a head cold, so we postponed our latest venture. We can actually see Glastonbury Tor on a clear day from our house. Isn’t that amazing?

Beautiful scenery, Karen. I haven't been to Dorset for around 10 years. My friend has just had a week down beside you, she and her husband rented a cottage along with her daughter and her little dog, Pip. She lived there when she was younger for a time.

One of my favourite counties, beats Cornwall in my view! I think Glastonbury is a fascinating place, especially the historic buildings, but rather taken over by the 'woo-woos'!

It certainly is a stunning part of your country. Such outstanding views.

Thanks everyone. I also prefer Dorset to Cornwall which is a bit harsh for me. Cornwall has a lot in common with Coastal Eastern Scotland I think. It’s wild! Devon is much more my style. The roads in Cornwall are quite a challenge, as they can also be in Dorset. But all three of the counties, and Somerset too, have great appeal.

It was truly a glorious day, and since then it has been miserable! Having said that, the sun is peeping out a bit now.

You did well to wait until now, Karen. We were there in April (thinking we’d beat the crowds) but everywhere was packed! It is a gorgeous coast … I knew it well as a teenager when my family lived in Lilliput, suburb of Poole, and we often went to Shell Bay and Studland: luckily quite empty in those days 🙂
