Acer ‘Jerre Schwartz’

I thought I’d share with you one of my best and favourite plants in my new garden. This Acer has been a delightful mix of red and green all summer and will hopefully put on a lovely autumn display later. It has grown more quickly than most Japanese maples and has a lovely evenly urn- shaped habit. I have it facing East, so it gets morning sun but hasn’t minded at all. The hotter part of the day it has shade. I took these pics today, 20th September. As you can see, it has been communicating harmoniously with all of its neighbours too!

Truly lovely Karen. Will it change to the deep pink over Autumn?

In agreement too, it is a very attractive plant.

I'm glad yours is thriving, Karen. Mine doesn't seem very happy!

Quite lovely.

It's lovely Karen. I always thought acers didn't like the morning sun but yours seems to be thriving.

Lovely little maple. This is the first time I heard the name.

Thanks everyone. Rose, you are right. Some Acers hate morning sun. My lime green one Sharasawanum had to be moved as it got scorched, especially if the wind was also present. But really I think it is more the pale coloured ones.

I've made a note of its name. One to look out for. Will it be happy in a decent sized container do you think?

I think so SBG, but possibly not permanently as it is one of the faster growing varieties.

Karen, I also made a note of its name as I googled it and it said it is a dwarf. How tall do you think it will grow?
It looked gorgeous in all the pictures on the net.

Oh, only a couple of metres or so Klahanie. Mine is already half way there after 1 year though. But you’re right….it would be ok in a big pot. :)

I’m now wondering whether mine is actually Jerre Schwartz! It’s not behaving like a tree of max 2.5m. Time will tell!

Karen, I looked around internet again and I think yours is a Jerre Schwartz..I read in several descriptions that is has a "vigorous" or "robust" growth and the pictures of the leaves looks like yours. What attracted me most was that apparently leaves are changing colour year round. I think you will be happy with it. Some of the colours are very attractive.
I hope I will find one around here.
