The Birds

I’ve had a lot of birds in the garden this year, but since about 7 o’clock this morning the three feeders I’ve got have been consistently full. Each feeder has had between 7 and 12 birds at the same time. Even the ground feeders have been scooting around under the feeders. They all seem to be flocking in from around the neighbourhood! Not only are they feeding, but are feeding as though there is no tomorrow. And I’ve only got peanuts and fat balls out; no seeds at present. And it’s not as if there isn’t enough natural food out there for them with all the bugs and snails etc!
I wonder if they know something I don’t?…

We had loads of crows on the roofs yesterday circling around for ages about lunch time - very odd. We have had no real rain for weeks, it must be very difficult for wild life to find water?

Could it be possibly that the temperatures have cooled down?
By contrast, I've got a bird table, with feeders for seed, nuts, suet etc and yet I only remarked today that we haven't seen any birds feeding for ages.
Perhaps nature knows something we don't???

We had a bit of rain a couple of days ago, and a huge storm which cooled things down a bit. Today it's been chucking it down! And the temp's gone down from 28C to 16C!! I've got a couple of bird baths Snoopdog and a wee water feature that seems favourite with the blackbirds; it's been in much use this year! Perhaps it is because it's a bit a cooler that the birds are flocking out Waddy.
Hmm. I know what you mean Pamg. I put long sleeves on this morning!

They must like your garden. Maybe they're preparing for winter :o)

They were handing out water in the village today as there are 3 problems with the water in this area. How slow am I as I have only just realised at 8pm!!! as we can no longer flush or shower upstairs at least the kitchen tap is still working on low flow, but for how long?

Ooh. Don't say that Hywel! Mind you after today's temperature...
Sorry to hear about you water problems Drc. Bathing in the kitchen? Have you got a tin tub? :-) Sorry, I know it's not really a laughing matter but it makes you realise how much we take for granted.

Strange you should mention it. All summer all I've had is sparrows, jackdaws and magpies. This last 2 days - the odd great tit has appeared, a female blackbird has been in and out constantly, a little robin has returned and the Chaffinches, complete with fledglings are feeding in the garden again.
Something is a stirrin'!

Has it been cold with you today then ? It's been a lovely day here.
I just thought the birds were making the most of the food while it was there :o)

I found it lovely and warm yesterday, but last night was a totally different kettle of fish. I'd replaced our duvet during the hot nights, with just a throw. Last night, I was decidedly chilly. The duvet's going back on tonight. I hate to ask, but do you think we're in for an early onset of winter?
