Solar lights become nests!

My 3 solar lights were not working properly and when I shook them they rattled as if they had water in them. They are sealed and not supposed to take in water???
Imagine my surprise when I took the bases off and instead of water I found they were full of very fine earth. I had noticed ants under them but I did not expect this!
I have emptied them and dried them out and having replaced the batteries, 2 are working again. How do they get in well there is a tiny hole in the base of each one. I thought I had protected them by keeping them (turned off)in the garage all winter.

Thanks for posting this. I have the exact same light which had also stopped working. Figured it was just done. Will now check.
