Hosepipe ban may be lifted by the end of this month?

Good news for gardeners, the hosepipe ban is expected to be lifted this month after the recent heavy rain.
Apparently water companies and the Environment Agency have been put under pressure to end restrictions before the world turns its eyes to Britain for the Olympic Games.
The April ban and was supposed to run until at least Christmas amid warnings of shortages and threats to rivers and wildlife following very dry winters. But the water companies, the Environment Agency and the Government all have to agree before the ban can be reversed.

Great news..otherwise it will rain right through the summer till they are satisfied! :))))

I certainly hope so. With a new garden, new plants and a bad back, taking watering cans down the 150ft garden has been v difficult! :-)

That's good news,Denise..we have been so lucky here not to be affected..

Except getting wetter and wetter since they declared a drough......
Maybe they think if they say that the drought is over it will be dry for the olympics.....

I bought 2 water butts this Spring and it has not stopped raining since.

It will be good if they do lift it although I don`t need the hosepipe for the garden as its once again swimming anyway, thundering a lot today as well, all butts are full even my new one.. Sod the eyes of the world being on us, they should think of us first we are the ones who buy the water all year round, as usual we come last, rant over, lol..

We've had no rain here at all today (despite the forecast) but I think tomorrow will make up for it if the the TV is to be believed

THose gales 60-80 MPH that are forecast may well do a lot of damage?
6 Jun, 2012
I heard that too this morning, always more damage when the trees are in full leaf and the soil is sofl, I just hope that they are being over cautious!

We had strong winds here on the last Friday in May and it brought down a mature oak tree in the park at the bottom of my road

Goodness that must be a loss Andrew.

It took part of another one with it so now there is a large gap in the planting. It's in Lily Hill Park - I wrote a blog about the rhododendron collection there a couple of years go. Fortunately, none of the historical rhodos were damaged.
I spoke to the Park Manager yesterday and we will replace the trees with an ornamental shrub to add interest later in the year

Oh it might sound a bit daft but I always feel a bit sad when we lose another of our majestic trees, we are lucky enough to have missed the high winds but OH BOY!!! the rain is torrential yet again, just no stopping it seems and yet some bright spark had said that after the last lot we were in for another `76 summer, well if our 2 weeks were all he meant, then I wish they`d keep stum because they sure did put the mockers on...

Gosh its wet here......it'll be floods again next!

The Royal Cornish show is suffering today with the gales. No wonder the British discuss the weather so much!
7 Jun, 2012
Isn't it just!. Metweather talked about deep lows and autumnal gales.....and .its not even the longest day!!
7 Jun, 2012
I always find the longest day somewhat depressing, but this year!!!
7 Jun, 2012
I know what you mean, in most years I have tomatoes to eat at the beginning of july, usually the cherry ones..... I haven't got any flowers yet!
And I think I,m giving up on cucumbers itstoo much fluctuating temperatures, too hot and now too cold
7 Jun, 2012
I've just braved the elements, and put a couple of tubs in the shed, two in the coldframe..and another two under the patio table..at least they will get chance to drain a bit..the others will just have to take pot luck...so depressing today..and more of it to look forward to ..oh,joy !

I heard the eskimos have about 25 words for snow. I'm sure we have a similar number for rain.
Cloudburst, torrential, downpour, cats and dogs, stair rods, drizzle, mizzle ....
7 Jun, 2012
Heavens opened is another one and I have full water butts and nothing to water!
7 Jun, 2012
Yes and a few more choice ones that really are not allowed on here so I`ll settle for Piscatorial Showers !!!!lol.

South east water said last night that there underground water levels are still low, which is why they had the ban in the first place, so there may be no lifting the ban here yet?
8 Jun, 2012
Let's hope the recent rains mean more hosepipe bans can be lifted.
