Clematis 'Comtesse de Bouchaud'

I have 2 of these, this one is over 8 years old and was prone to brown leaves and could looked a mess. Over the years I have given it Epsom salts and that has stopped this problem (but I do think some Clematis need a few years to get going and get over these problems) now I let it grow across the patio on 2 metal plant stands, its a late flowerer. Its group 3 for pruning and I cut it down to 12" every Autumn which is a bit earlier than advised but it works for this one.
The other one is about 2 years old and is growing up an arch but its got the same brown leaves so Its now on Epsom salts.

Meadowland I apply a handful around the base 2-3 times in the season and feed at the same time. I dont know why but I always use it when its dry weather and wait a couple of days and if no rain then gently water it in.
Waddy my father in law taught me about ES and I have used it for over 30 years on my roses and plant that look a bit yellow leaved. I used to buy in bulk from a chemist but now it is sold in Garden centres.

How beautiful it is now Drc! You are obviously doing the right thing and must be really pleased. I have two clematis, one of them is also Comtesse de Bouchaud, now in their 2nd year and both are looking very poorly. I'll certainly be trying this,(will purchase some epsom salts this week) perhaps I'll also try it on a struggling passion flower! Thank you for the tip and advice on how you use it.

Hope it works for you, must say you need to not give up as eventually it gets there.

That's lovely Drc. I've heard of Epsom Salts for Tomatoes but not for Clematis. Thanks for the tip
