The Rain in Spain.......

Has arrived ! Typical when you consider my friend flies in tomorrow and what’s forecast ? – Thunderstorms!! Not good as she’s a nervous flyer.
The heatwave appears to have finally broken. Yesterday we had a ‘dry’ thunderstorm – 3 or 4 hours of Thunder during the afternoon. I thought it was a good idea to get out of the pool! Then at 6pm it started raining (hooray) just the sort of rain I like not heavy but steady. After 25 minutes it stopped which was fine, just enough to save me watering. Cleared up beautifully and we had a cooler but dry night.
This morning I checked the weather forecast and noted Thunderstorms for Tuesday :-( Nothing bad for today though. I went shopping in bright sunshine into the supermarket (sunglasses on) came out 15 minutes later to a MONSOON,
Spain doesn’t do ‘storm drains’ I drove home very slowly (about 10kph) praying that the car in front of me didn’t stall! The water was about 2ft deep and the road had disappeared. I made it home in one piece (but the car was making some very strange noises) This is the second time I have been caught in a flash flood – very scary
All this took about 40 minutes maximum, but when I got back an empty mop bucket I had left out was overflowing! Several of my Vincas had taken a hammering too. Within an hour the road was dry and it was all over. The sun even came out!
Fingers crossed for tomorrows trip to the airport.

Trouble with that sort of rain is that it runs straight off with very little of it soaking into the ground. Back to the watering, lol.

Hopefully it's just shed the leaves to conserve water, Drc - just a bit early.

I wondered who got all the rain from the clouds brewing over our mountains! Could you send some of it back north to here, please, only the grass in the meadows is crunchy and the sheep are having a hard time finding anything tasty!

You are most welcome to it Nariz. The sky was cloud-free and bright blue when I got up. There is some build up cloud but it's not threatening (yet)
After the car's 'swim' yesterday - it has lost it's voice ! I have no horm. Last time we had torrential rain the horn was affected but it never disappeared completely.
On the plus side the rain didn't run off - all my plants are beautifully moist :-)

As you were! We had a day-long thunderstorm yesterday and everything is now dripping! That's the trouble living in a valley surrounded with mountains - it gets its own lovely micro-climate as the mountains stop a lot of the bad weather getting into the valley .... BUT .... if the clouds manage to find the secret way in .... they rumble around for days before finding the way out again! A bit like Shangri-La!

Wednesday afternoon brought torrential rain and Thunderstorms. I drove along the autopista to the airport with lightening all around, quite glad to get into the relative peace of the car park. My friends flight went from 25 mins early to 10 late. But she got in OK. Rain yesterday afternoon too but we are having fun anyway. Today has been dry so far but it's blowing half a gale.
Looked up your region Nariz - it's beautiful. Good to know your mountains are protecting your micro climate. Our range has failed badly this last few days :-)

Well after that thunderstorm ours haven't done too well either! Still, we had a nice sunny day yesterday - shame everything underfoot was muddy! Won't be able to get in the garden for several days! But the sheep are happy - and cleaner!
