My curly poles are a favourite perching place for several of the birds that visit the garden.

Sticki, I have had these twisty poles in my garden for several years and they are used quite a lot but plants as well as the birds :)
They are cute, Sanbaz, but so busy - I was lucky to get a couple of good shots.

maybe if i attach a fat ball to one it would encourage them?

I did try that once, Sticki, and the fat ball slowly slipped down the pole! If the pole is placed near a feeding table/station the birds should use it as they go to and fro.

will try that then, thanks Gee!

Fab pic! My fave bird too.
I have those poles around my pond with fishing line tied around it against the herons. Pity my pond is so far away from the house, am thinking of moving it!!! But that's quite some job in this limestone ground!

how about a stream coming from the pond lulu? or does that make even more work?
6 Feb, 2012
would be fun wouldn't it but the lower end might stagnate...

pump it back up to the first pond???
not much to do there!!!!
when you have your working party i will bring my spade!

would be good to do something really cool with that wee pond in this huge garden!

How clever of of you to capture this shy little bird, Ive tried many times but usually get a blank picture as they fly off so quickly;0)

Wonderful Gee....clever you to catch her!

I love the Jenny Wren, and we are now getting one visiting the garden. They are so active and squeeze themselves into little corners of the trellis and fences to try for spiders.

A great capture, and what a clever idea (the poles) had them for years never did much with them....tomorrow they will be in the borders....
