Thanks for your comments Sanbaz and Delonix ... the lovely drizzly rain we were experiencing on Australia Day and in the weeks before that has now turned to torrential rain ... haven't been able to get out into the garden for quite some time now.

29 Jan, 2010

Bernieh:

Wow! Now it has turned to torrential rain...are you having any flooding there?

29 Jan, 2010

Yes we've had quite a bit of localised flooding Andy ... found it hard to get home from work on Wednesday afternoon - lots of flooding over the highway home. Yesterday wasn't too bad ... but still had to travel through water.

Now Olga (what was an ex-cyclone that passed north of here a couple of weeks ago) has re-formed and is back in the north ... more rain and today we're getting great wind gusts! Never ever dull here in the summer.

29 Jan, 2010

Bernieh:

It sure seema like you're going to get your rain again this year.
I hope the storm doesn't cause too much damage!

I've seen Cyclone Olga on the internet...it's very strange to see it reforming and strengthening as a tropical storm over land...that's extremely rare! Actually, I've never seen this happen before to a tropical cyclone.

Yes good old Olga ... she was enjoying her break and then decided to get back to work! Typical woman ... she just changed her mind!

Bernieh:

I'm not going to comment on the "typical woman ... she just changed her mind!" LOL!!! : > )

I was monitoring Olga's path on the internet...I saw the moisture being pulled in from the ocean and into your area. It looked quiet ominous! I noticed the very strong winds recorded at Townsville's Airport to more than 50mph / 80km/h.

I hope you don't sustain too much damage! Take care!

Well that was yesterday Andy ... we got around another 77mm in one day ... our creek, which is normally dry, was absolutely gushing! We did get wind gusts out here, but in the city area they reached around 60 km/h.

There was a lot of flooding in and around the city ... we had a king tide as well, would you believe. Of course, out here in the hills we didn't have much flooding ,,, but there was no way of getting into town as the highway road was closed off in three different parts.

Then this morning we wake up to ... nothing but a bit of an overcast sky!! It's just incredible ... we're now waiting to see if the worse is over, but I think it is. Uh..oh just as I'm typing down comes the rain!

WHile watching the tennis on the tele I saw the fireworks when they stopped the match for a while. Nice picture of gold and green. Hope you had a good celebration day.

31 Jan, 2010

Thanks Lindak ... yes I had a great day. Just spent it with friends and family, but that is what most of us do ... hope you've been enjoying the tennis downunder! Roger and Sarina always do so well down here!

Yes I've got lots of the Walking Iris here Marguerite. About a month ago I had to pull up an enormous amount of it from out of the greenhouse garden ... it helped to make a huge bonfire pile!!
