John Davidson worked at the University of Aberdeen before being appointed the first Provincial Botanist of British Columbia.
Photo from my blog of 10th January 2009...
THE UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA BOTANICAL GARDEN.
Requested by GoY member David for his GoYpedia Botanical Garden and GoYpedia Botany........
Davidson established a herbarium in Vancouver and a botanical garden near New Westminster. This was moved to the University of British Columbia in 1916, where it became the UBC Botanical Garden.
It is the oldest botanical garden at a university in Canada.

Many Thanks, Tt!!
I've always really liked this pic since you first put it in your UBC blog. Would have been in my element had I lived in the days of the pioneering planthunters and botanists. I also love the colour in this pic. :-))

Difficult to work out a person's age from these old photo's, how old would he have been? It makes my back ache just to think about sitting like that while drawing! lol
12 Dec, 2009
Agree, Lily.. I couldn't sit like that for long at any age !
John Davidson's life ... 1878 - 1970, so I guess he is about 37 years old in this photograph. :o)

You normally tell a man when he get s to a certain age as he grows hairs out his ears and nose lmao. Lovely picture I wonder what he was sketching.
