26 Oct, 2011
oooh nice, i hate to tell you this but i just found a shop that sells lardy cake!! i love it.
26 Oct, 2011
That Pixi is a cheeky beggar,Sticki...Lol...sorry to have to tell you both ,but going on hols tomorrow,so there will be lots of naughty cakes etc...I won't take pics of them though..in case you both think I am greedy...obviously ,I won't be eating any...,and if you believe that, you will believe anything ! :o)))))))
what the heck is lardy cake,Sticki ? ..and don't say lard..there must be more too it than that :o)
26 Oct, 2011
i think they use lard, but its a bit like a doughy bread, with dried fruit in and then sugar and probably the lard, i should think its like a heart attack coated in flour!!!
http://www.greatbritishkitchen.co.uk/recipebook/index.php?option=com_rapidrecipe&page=viewrecipe&recipe_id=1171
you could take pictures of cakes ~ in the shop!!! you dont have to tell us whether you ate them or not. where are you going?
26 Oct, 2011
I seem to remember my mum making something similar,Sticki..I will check the link later to see if it's the same..now,where am I going ? .somewhere nice and warm,hopefully..a cruise round the Med for a week..Spanish cities,Morocco ,(think OH wants to trade me in for a camel LOl).Gibraltar, and Lanzarote...for a week,,so you see my dilemma about the cakes? They will be there on display to tempt me..I could always turn the other way,and head for the boring stuff .:o))
26 Oct, 2011
Nah!!! boring is not an option ~ when in rome...... you will have to sample the delights!!
i hope you have a wonderful time ~ i shall be looking out for the blog. perhaps the captain will let you on his computer!!!
26 Oct, 2011
I have remembered to pack my camera..and charger,as I hope to take lots of pics,Sticki..I had wondered whether to try the Internet room, but it was quite expensive ,even for a short period..also,I have never mastered the 'Mouse' with my laptop,so by the time I manage to do that,it could be time to come home ! Lol.
26 Oct, 2011
Lardy cake is a doughy bread like mix, risen then rolled spread with lard and fruits and spices, turned and rolled again spread again with lard and fruits and spices think you do it three times then bake it and of course eat it. Not good for the figure or the heart. lol. saw it being made today. sorry do not know the recipe, you could google it though it is I think an ancient Wiltshire recipe.
26 Oct, 2011
thank you oliveoil ~ the recipe is on the web but i think its one of those things that is better bought from a very large tray that only the professionals have. or perhaps that is only because i cant make it properly!!!
26 Oct, 2011
lol. probably a good thing because I sure am certain that is one cake that would not be good for you.(if ever any cake is good for you) lol. but bet it is yummy the old ones are the best and always the yummiest, especially when they are not good for you. lol. shame shame shame. Ah well back to my lettuce leaf sarnies lol ONLY KIDDING!!!
27 Oct, 2011
I tried messing with it, didn't work!!
27 Oct, 2011
i think you have to be good with yeast ~ i should have taken a photo of it ~ but i ate it all. they make it in trays about 2 foot long.
27 Oct, 2011
How's about lettuce and marmite sarnies!! Yum! Made them for cricket tea last year, they were surprisingly popular!
27 Oct, 2011
i just had marmite on toast ~ nice! dont fancy the lettuce tho!
27 Oct, 2011
Yuk@ marmite ..bleh!!!!!!!!!
My cake wasnt good..Rick made one and it was perfect
:( he said its in the wrist action lol
27 Oct, 2011
what was wrong with your cake? bet it tasted good.
27 Oct, 2011
Love the original photo. Love craft centres(good ones),love coffee shops, love Marmite on toast and would give serious consideration to a Marmite and lettuce sandwich.
27 Oct, 2011
