Black grass.

A friend bought me this ornament, its actually a candle holder, but my daughter didn't like it she said it looked sort of pagan so I stuck a pot of black grass in it.----What do you think ?

It is a Mayan indian candle holder.
Circle of Friends
'The Indian legend says that at the end of the evening, friends would gather around a bonfire and share their hearts and speak of the good qualities of each other and remember times shared. As the embers faded, their friendship was said to be sealed anew bringing them closer together. As you sit with the candle lit in the middle of your circle of friends, it will surround and embrace all who sit with you and bring good luck to those who stay together.'
I think it's lovely, you could always sit around it with your cocoa and gingerbread me lo :)))
It's also a bit like us on GOY sitting around our computers each evening :))

I had one of these ornaments, too, once. I left it outside and it shattered when the first frost got it. Yes, the grass looks great in it.

The grass and ornament complement each other very well Val.

Thank you Aster for that lovely info' my friend will be really pleased when I tell her, she thought it had something to do with friendship. I like the idea of us all sitting around our computers every evening.

David thanks , and shall remember to bring it in.

Thanks Bellflower, the grass was a bit I pulled of the parent plant only a couple of months ago.

Looks great with the grass in it Val......but wouldn't that be a rather large candle???

24 Aug, 2010

Mmmm that was the problem Lily, large ones are hard to come by !

24 Aug, 2010

Well it certainly would need to be a big one Val! :o))

24 Aug, 2010

Good idea Janey, and methinks you would be just the person to organize such an event after all you are very good with "magic carpets"--------- Yes ? ?
:0)))

I am going to google search that container....I'd love to find out more about them and their cost....away I go to browse! You've made very good use of it, the black grass suits it to a 'T', Val.

I just did a search and although they don't seem widely available in the UK, I did find one supplier http://www.kon-tiki.co.uk/contents/en-uk/p144.html Apparently there is even a larger one that is 'architectural in size' (I think that really would be wishing and dreaming on my part though!)

Think I'll have to drop some hints to family on this one :) lol

Glad to be of help W., don't you just love it when you get inspired ? I've had loads of good ideas on this site.

5 Sep, 2010

I'd need many acres of property to put all the lovely ideas in place that I've found here in GOY. I've been looking at photos and reading blogs on here for ages today....very addictive...lol

Need to get busy in the back garden and stop reading/dreaming/drooling over all the lovely gardens on here!

Tons of inspiration, you are right Val

Hey Whistonlass I fancy the"architectural in size" one,--- dreaming on my part too ! ;0))

5 Sep, 2010

Totally with you on that one, Val :)

5 Sep, 2010

How big is 'architectural size' then, as a matter of interest. That really would need a very big candle! :o))

6 Sep, 2010

Lily....I've just checked on the website that sells the 'architectural size' and they say it is 53cm tall - 47cm Diameter....perhaps it is meant to contain plants? I still like them....lots!

6 Sep, 2010

Blimey Whistonlass thats a big one, wait till I tell Lily ! , She'll want one ! :0))

6 Sep, 2010

Thanks Whistonlass, just had to get the ruler out to see what that is in 'old money'! That's certainly too big for candles so yes, maybe plants .....or even a fountain?.......no, maybe that's a silly idea LOL
Whatever you have Val, you know I have to have it bigger! LOL

6 Sep, 2010

Been and had a look Lily, it certainly is a big one but what Whistonlass didn't tell us is that it cost-------- wait for it --------------- £99. WOW ! How big is that ?

6 Sep, 2010

lol.....yeah the price is a bit steep! I'd settle for the smaller version...I'll have to get busy and write my letter to Santa :)

Lily...I was going to admit to not having a clue what the measurements were...I'm still in the 'old money' too! Yes, I agree it is very big.....so Lily and Val have a bit of a competition going on here? ....anything you can do, I can do better....is that about the size of it? lol

6 Sep, 2010

That's about it Whistonlass, me and Val are both obsessed with size! lol

7 Sep, 2010

No comment, Lily....lol

7 Sep, 2010

Hee hee !, and no comment here either ! :0)))

7 Sep, 2010

hmmm.........that's not what you've been telling me Val! :o))

7 Sep, 2010

Certainly looks good.......I like it.

14 Sep, 2010
