Looks an ideal spot for a wild flower area, are they Daffodil bulbs coming up?
25 Feb, 2010

Yes they are Carole , I have 3 apple trees a plum and a pear tree in this area and the daffodils grow all around them ... It's my favourite place when they are in flower ........

Hello Amy, love this pic. So natural :-) When do you expect your Fritillaria to appear. I've set some in a pot but no sign yet.
27 Feb, 2010
Hello Dawn ,, thanks , the Fritillaria usually flower round about the end of April beginning of May , you have to keep an eye on them because they have the same Scarlet Lily beetle on them as the Lilies , I take a jamjar out to put them in ..
Dawn you should put the bulbs on some coase sand and lay the bulbs sideways , cover with sand and replace the soil , but I expect you already know that :o))
27 Feb, 2010
Hi Amy, I'll be exhuming the Fritillaria bulbs tomorrow then, ha ha. No I didnt know the proper way to set them. Thanks for the super advice, we have some coarse sand luckily so I'll re-set them. Maybe they'd be better in the damp ground by the pond rather than a pot, what do you think?
27 Feb, 2010
Oh No Dawn .. what a shame .. I should have kept quiet !! they need a free draining site so I'm not sure that the damp pond area would be suitable .. quite often when you see wild flower fields they have these growing in that kind of situation ,they like some sun as well , I'm sure you will find a spot for them ..x
27 Feb, 2010
Please dont keep quiet Amy :-))))) I love your advice. I dont mind re-settng them, its better than losing them. I'll probably put them in a damp, but free draining area and not too sheltered - I'm sure I can find somewhere suitable.
27 Feb, 2010
I've just been looking for my pics. Dawn I have some on page 21 no.2 and one on page 20 no 27 , this was one white one that came up amongst the others .. ...
I shall look forward to seeing yours when they are in bloom :o)))
27 Feb, 2010
I've seen them Amy, very nice. I hope mine look as good one day. Pouring with rain here so I'll be doing the exhuming indoors.
28 Feb, 2010
Yours will be like that one day Dawn ... . it's raining here as well , it sounds as though you have a body in there ...... don't let Ronnie and Roxy join in the fun , you'll have sand and dirt flying everywhere .. LOL....
28 Feb, 2010
Hi Amy, I think you're psychic - yes the kittens had to join in - they love earthy smells. Anyway, I emptied the pot and most were shooting but 4 or 5 had rotten :-( So I put them on coarse sand and covered them up with sand and gently placed the compost back - thanks Amy.

Watched a programme on the TV and in one place they had pigs clearing the ivy in the wooded areas and they used them for spreading the snowdrops into the ground as the pigs won't eat them apparently. At this snowdrop place they said that some of their snowdrops were very rare and some of them can be over £200 per bulb.

I watched that programme as well Lindak , I must go out and inspect mine , wouln't d it be great if I had a grumpy .( have I got that right , is that what they called it ) :o)
