Wow this is wonderful Tetrarch, definitely one for the wish list :-)

They do a pink one too girls, but thats not in bud just yet...oooh cant wait!!
I grew some Magnus for a while Karen but it disappeared after about 3 years. Got a Kim's Knee High, had it ages but its never yet got to the flower stage. Its a bit near a clump of geranium and I think thats a major hidey hole for slugs!

Thanks ladies..Im really chuffed to little bits {:-))

Thanks Val, Frybo.
Well Cristina, if it doesnt perform next summer, out it goes. Cant be having a no show! If Kims Knee Hi doesnt flower this year, that goes too.

7 Aug, 2011

had a look and it grown a bit but ..............

8 Aug, 2011

Well unless its been nibbled by slugs, it might take a season to mature..this is my first attempt at White Swan, had NO problems with Magnus, but my Kims Knee Hi is a tasty meal for slugs on a regular basis, so perhaps I should move it!!

8 Aug, 2011

I have to smile, most of the plants etc this year, are mostly named after something you can eat...lol...
Hope they are as good too...

14 Aug, 2011

Yes, mail order. Devine Nurseries. Nice big root balls. If they are only as good as the pics I will be over the moon...if they taste good..even better lol!

Echs are native to NA...would imagine the hybrids need the same culture as the specie. They need full sun and well draining (sandy) soil. They sometimes get mildew in humid summer...but they are very hardy. slugs don't do that much damage as the Ech. is a very woody plant and they prefer something more succulent! there are tons of varieties but I like the specie, myself. this one is a zinger! You can create a colour echo with another native, gaillardia.

15 Aug, 2011

Didnt think they were hardy Lori, so never tried them. However, my crocosmia Severn Sunset matches well in colour but shows up well being a different shape and texture.

Echinacea, gaillardia, and monarda are native here...very hardy and well acclimated. very few, if any pests and they don't need a lot of water, which is why they are becoming popular in water starved areas. With a good mulch they will flourish without constant watering in the heat of the summer. Liatris, or gayfeather is another native from the western part of NA. It's amazing how they all compliment each other.

Very interesting Lorilyn...I sure have the right soil for them, and a very Hot garden....:o))

Hi everyone, haven't found the other three varieties of Ech as yet, but the Nursery I order with had 'Sunset' which is gorgeous, will go lovely with my White...but i'm still hoping, we're going to an open weekend at the Nursery 25/26th September, so i'll ask the boss, if she can obtain them for me...:)))

13 Sep, 2011

Crissue. just looked at the Devine Nursery site. They exhibit in France!!

13 Sep, 2011

Oh wow, I didn't see that...I wonder if I can order then, going to get right on to it...thanks Tet...What did you think of 'Sunset'...did you get chance to look...

13 Sep, 2011

Its a really nice one, would have got it but got the Tomato one already..Arts Pride didnt go for me at all..tried 3 times!

13 Sep, 2011

Found it Tetra...Have put my order in, and it wasn't that expensive to deliver to France, I've seen worse delivery fees...thanks....

13 Sep, 2011

Great I hope you will be as pleased as I was..you can tell them I was so pleased I recommended..they may take extra trouble (not that Im special, but recommendations usually mean a lot to a smallish nursery)

13 Sep, 2011

I will be pleased to when I receive mine...They must have been updating their page when I looked last, I didn't see anything of what I found today...I ordered among others, Hot Papaya, and Marmalade, hope it's as nice as my Heuchera Marmalade, colour wise...
