I wonder why that is Barbara , mine are spreading without any help from me , I think the bulbs are moved during the digging ..... I have a couple of new ones this year Nerine Codora , i'm looking forward to seeing them as on the pic. they look reddish in colour .apparently they don't always flower in their first year after planting , I will have to be patient and wait until next year ...

Very pretty Barbara, we have some out, was going to split them last year, thought better of it.....glad I did after last winter, bought a new one this year forgot where I put it lol came up in the front garden flower border and has flowered for ages, I am now frightened to move it.............!!

I keep forgetting to buy some!!
DD - I have read that they dislike being disturbed.

I think it's because they like their bulbs to get sun on them in the 'summer', and they don't get enough where they are. It can't be helped - and I'm not moving them. I might try getting some more - Amy's sounds lovely, and I've seen some 'different' ones on here.

beautiful

They seem to like being crammed in, like Agapanthus too. I've never managed to grow any, but some of people near this estate have them in their front gardens....so pretty! These are a lovely colour Barbara!

Thanks - yes, I'd read that, so my 12 were planted close together.
Just as an aside, there's a front urban garden in the town where there's nothing except Nerines. The garden must be around 20' square - with a path up the middle. It's quite a sight at this time of year, but I don't know what they do for the other 11 months. Odd, isn't it!

That is odd! That person must have a real passion for Nerines!!
10 Nov, 2010
Absolutely - it looks amazing - but just for a short time.

one of mine is flowering :o))))

Yayy!! :-))

They may take a while to settle, but yes, fingers crossed! :-)

I planted some of these this year, I dont know what happened to them , they just never grew
12 Nov, 2010
Too cold, I expect, sadly. They're not reliably hardy. :-(
12 Nov, 2010
Thank you, M. :-)

Lovely colour. I was given quite a few nerines by a friend a year ago, and I also bought some. So far, no sign of any of them :( Not really surprised I guess - my garden is too damp.
12 Nov, 2010
SIGH. I think they're a bit 'picky', R'smum. :-(

Gorgeous.....

That's the trouble, Pip - I don't want to give up on them, as they are so lovely!

I love Nerines but I've never grown them. :-(( I was given some Agapanthus a few weeks ago & I have them in a pot on my balcony. I'm looking forward to seeing them flower for the first time.
I know of several gardens that have huge clumps of these flowering now. They always look so lovely! :-))
13 Nov, 2010
I agree - but would you want a WHOLE garden just with Nerines?
13 Nov, 2010
One of my favourite flowers.
14 Nov, 2010
It is lovely, I agree...but somewhat of a challenge!
14 Nov, 2010
saw this in a clients garden ... never seen it b 4, it was stuning so its now on my wish list .
14 Nov, 2010
Good for you - but it must have a sunny position, Cristina.

They do well in some areas. I've seen a lot flowering in South UK. I'm jealous because I planted some once here in Hungary, and got a few leaves and after that nothing. They just vanished.
15 Nov, 2010
Well - I get 2 out of 12, which isn't very good, is it? :-((
15 Nov, 2010
Oh thats so frustrating Spritz, I must admit I haven`t your patience tried growing them a couple of years back with no success - so haven`t tried since.
Can`t understand the garden full bit, as you say what happens the rest of the year.

I should make a note of where it is - and try to sneak a look on the way past! It's on a main road going out of the town, so I couldn't really stop there. I'd quite like to, to get a photo.
