Wisley

I visited Wisley today, like Andy mainly to see the butterflies. It was a lovely morning and a bus journey of only about 45 minutes. Although the car park was packed it seemed quiet once inside. The glasshouse was crowded but everyone could see quite well – so hot in there, we were all carrying our coats. My camera wasn’t up to the task of photographing these fast moving beauties but I got a couple of ok pics. Lots of snowdrops out and shoots appearing everywhere. A lovely, peaceful day – well, until I missed the bus back (got the time wrong) and only one an hour. Didn’t matter really, I just went back for a look around the plants for sale section.
I think this is Blue Morpho
Possibly Great Mormon
The Owl
Indian leaf wing
Tree Nymph
These are all I managed to spot, despite there being over 30 flying about! Sorry they are not very good pics.

The Owl was the easiest one to photograph Donnah because it seemed happy just sitting.

They are tricky to capture aren't they Ginellie, but it must have been lovely seeing them all. Have you been to Butterly World? It's just off the M25, on the route to St. Albans. Worth a visit!

Me too Cmsue. I was a bit sad to learn what a short life span they have = dying of 'old age' after two to four weeks.

Its always difficult to get some good shots, in those situations I`d take hundreds and then hope for the best Ginnellie.
It was good of you to share the ones you did get, pleased you had a good day despite missing the bus...

It was a good day Lincslass, made even better when I visited my local garden centre on the way home and found they had some half price stainless steel tools. A christmas voucher paid for a trowel, fork and hoe. Excellent.

Glad you enjoyed your day out at Wisley Ginellie. I've been there a couple of times but not seen the Butterfly House, is it new? Beautiful butterflies and half price tools on the way home is an added bonus so who cares about missing the bus home!

Hi Lily. It's not a Butterfly house as such, just the Glasshouse into which they released probably hundreds I imagine. They were bred on a farm in Belize and transported as pupae. They will be at the end of their lives when the event ends.

Ah so only a temporary thing then, I wondered how I'd missed it.
