Exciting Times

I was so delighted this morning to see frogspawn in my relatively new pond. Then I used some of my very own compost for the first time. I had read that it should be ‘rich, dark and crumbly’, and it was. Amazing. I was so excited I had to ring all my gardening and non gardening friends to describe the moment. I’m sure they think I’ve lost the plot.
Went to the local garden centre later and bought a few different herbs and also Russian Vine. I am determined to cover the back fence with something that grows fairly rapidly, though the Quickthorn planted a while ago is looking good now.
Having worked every Saturday for about 30 years it’s wonderful to just sit about listening to Sounds of the Sixties and then don the wellies and get out in the garden. Love it.

Of course you do! Being able to choose what you do and when is the best feeling!

Well done with your compost-making; it sounds perfect!

It certainly has been a great Saturday and now I am about to have a glass of wine begin to read The Gardener's Essential by Gertrude Jekyll which I bought for 50p in the Oxfam shop. I might watch Match of the Day later.

That was 50p well-spent !

Hi Ginellie, I second all that has gone before. Never had frog spawn but loads of frogs. Saturdays will not be mine until kids fly the nest. but as for sounds of the 60's I admire your musical tastes. My favourite era though I was only at junior school then.

Terratoonie how do I do that little sideways smily face? Bonkers and Terra, I so enjoyed my wine, but now too tired to watch Match of the Day!
Seaburngirl, so glad you like 60's music, it seems to be quite popular again with some young people today. Duffy sounds very much like Dusty to me.

Sounds like you had a good day, not been able to get in garden today its been raining most of the day, and tonight it is very very windy, dread to think what i'll find in morning, when i can go outside and look, when its a nice day outside i have my headphones on and listen to the 60's music, Elvis mostly.

Know what you meen about sounds of the sixties Ginellie I like to listen Brian Matthew as well on a Saturday morning whilst reading my paper, then BBC Essex with the Gardening Show. Pure bliss!!!!
Spreading your own homemade compost on the ground has got to be one of the most rewarding jobs in my book.I don't think you've lost the plot, it gives great satisfaction to think you've helped your soil by making something from waste that costs nothing. I get just as excited. Wonderful!!
Enjoy your Saturdays!!

Oh Clarice I so love Elvis, in fact my children think I should go on Mastermind answering questions on 'The King'. I did however point out to them that I would need to know a few general knowledge questions as well. They then realised it probably wasn't a good idea!

Ginellie, to do smiley faces, use the colon key for the eyes, then either a dash or a lower-case 'o' for the nose, and a bracket for the mouth. A sad face is the other bracket!!!

:-) :-) :-) etc...

Thanks Spritz, hopefully won't need a sad face.

I have many CDs of 60s music - my teenage years were the whole of that decade. I don't listen to much else except a few clasical bits that I like.

It's wonderful to have your own home made compost. I have some that should be ready now aswell. Sounds as if you had a lovely day.

Ginellie, I am so envious of you and your frogspawn, I've had my pond 2 years this year and not a sign, we have
quite a few frogs, so i don't know what the matter is.

I've been looking for frog and toad spawn every day but alas, not as lucky as you yet Ginellie. Sounds like you've found the key to perfect compost making - you'll have to pass on your tip!

Daff - maybe they are all female ones (or the other way round?) LOL.
