here is a wee write up about it to let you see if it might interest you
==========

The Beechgrove Garden is a Scottish gardening programme which sets out to deal with, glory in and celebrate Scottish horticulture and growing conditions.

The programme is and always has been a firmly practical, get-your-hands-dirty programme and it proudly shows success, and learns from failures in the garden, and never takes itself too seriously.

The main part of the programme comes from the Beechgrove Garden near Aberdeen.From our garden, the presenters give weekly advice on what you could and should be doing in the garden each week.They cover as many gardening topics as possible, ranging from aerating the lawn to zapping pest problems, and everything in between.

This present ‘Beechrove Garden’ began its life over the winter of 1995/6 and some of the areas of the garden are that mature. We also continue to develop the garden every year and that means that there are both mature and new elements to the garden to show to viewers.

There are two “inserts” to the programme. ‘Problem Corners’ give the presenters a chance to get out into the gardens of viewers across Scotland who are having difficulty with some aspect of horticulture.If one viewer is having a particular problem, chances are there are many more people in the same situation. In 2008 we tried to take on Scotland’s top 10 gardening problems/concerns only to find that there are many more than just 10… For more information, see our Special Features Factsheets or apply to us.

‘Through the Garden Gate’ is our chance to celebrate Scotland’s gardens and gardeners.In this part of the programme, we visit inspirational gardens both large and small. Gardeners are generous people and, visiting gardens and gardeners around Scotland, the team come home armed with hints and tips for growing success in Scotland. If you know of or have a garden that you think we should visit then please apply to us.

Several times each year, we also pack up the whole team to go help in the culmination of a number of ‘Community Gardens’. The whole progrmame then comes from the area of the community garden and we use the creation of the community garden as a focus for taking a gentle, horticultural look at the surrounding area. The community gardens are created by the community for the community with a little help from Beechgrove and since the scheme started in 1996 there have been over 160 gardens created across scotland in this manner.

I watched it for the first time last year, even though I live in the south. I was amazed at how much the team managed to grow successfully and get through the Scottish winters. They are very honest in letting you know which varieties do better than others. I will certainly watch it again. I get Virgin TV but anyone who has freeview would be able to get BBC Scotland.
