Just watched tonights show.
Bit gobsmacked when Chris Packham said Blue Tits like garden mint!!!!!They actually showed the mummmy/daddy blue tit taking mint into the 9 babies, yes i did say 9 babies and feeding it to them.
Evidently its good for the red blood cells in the Blue Tits.
So we all ought to grow mint in pots for the Blue Tits and for ourselves off course for our potatoes.etc

Here, here, Arlene. Mine like the same, especially the black sunflower seeds, so much so, I've got sunflowers sprouting everywhere, even in my potato buckets lol.

....I.never knew that either..I can't wait to see our baby Bluetits emerging from the nest box,as Mum and Dad seem to have been feeding for a long time now.Just be our luck to miss them....Put some pics on yesterday...:o))

You people are amazing me. I think I'd better have a word with my blue tits and tell them what they are meant to be eating lol Mine only eat the fat balls and occassionally seeds in the feeder. The sunflowers and the mint they leave well alone - strange.
Bloomer I saw your bluetits lovely photos. How did you get so close. Mine always come out blurry!! Needs some tips olease. They keep investigating the bird boxes but dont nest. The boxes have been up for about 4 years.

Thanks Great,it wasn't me who took it..but I know a man who did .Lol.
this is what you have to do...Stand under a tree, about 2 yards away, for about an hour, wait for them to come out,..delete lots and lots, because they are too quick, and then suss out that you have to "click"just as you see it appearing ,and hope you catch the little blighter before you miss it again, and again, and again!!!
Got that?? then you should be OK....:o) as long as you have nothing else to do with your time !!!!...hope this helps...Ha Ha..Our nest box has been there 4 years too,so don't give up hope...and by the way,the roof of it was deteriorating badly,so it was re.roofed and is waterproof now,so a little DIY job may have done the trick..soggy eggs wouldn't do very well good luck...

My mint grows under a buddhlia and I always thought that was the attraction but now I can understand why they never come up to the other bush ...Off to look at pics...

I have several Bluetits nesting in boxes. I have stopped feeding as I understand from Bill Oddie that they manage quite well on a caterpillar that are plentiful in oak trees and there are lots around here.

Thats interesting Heron,as ours aren't going to the feeders, but they fly into the huge Sycamore nearby, back to the Alder, which is right by the nest box, before they go in,all in a few seconds,so there is obviously a natural food source there.
Its mainly the sparrows on the feeders now..

Oh thank you bloomer. Think I'll have to plant a tree then lol. I cant keep still for long ha ha
Heron i think in london with all the polution and what ever else the bluetits still need people to feed them. Mine are here time and time again. Today ive noticed them teaming up with the great tits to get to the feeders before the sparrows

` I heard you get a better survival rate if you feed throughout the summer and it gives them better resources if they can stock up on food before the winter.
The starlings are driving their poor mum mad~seems to be between 4-6 and sometimes she gets fed up and just flies away. They just sit there lookiing gormless.
They look as big if not bigger than her poor thing......

You have a point there Great, trees will be at a premium in London. All the same I wonder if nuts/seed would be suitable for babies, maybe the parents regurgitate it.
