I'm glad I bought this ...

It’s called an ash vac, and it’s meant to ‘hoover’ up ash from a dead barbecue fire …

However, I haven’t got a barbecue (can’t be bothered with them)
but I bought it in the hope it would help me clean the garden paths and the floors of my perspex shelters -
which it actually does very well :)

It’s about the size of a watering can, so I can easily carry it and store it away,
and the handle stands up when it’s on, so it can easily be moved around :)

It doesn’t cope with lots of leaves and fallen flowers – they tend to clog the hose,
but those get swallowed by the leaf sucker anyway,
but it is good at cleaning up debris, small stones and bits of twigs and dry leaves etc :)

I bought it off Amazon but I can’t remember the exact price, but it was about £24 -ish
and I’m glad I bought it :)

I must buy one for my barbecue, as I am having a barbecue nearly every Sunday, all year round.

I have one we call it a shop vac, It can also suck up floods which came in handy when my hot water tank bursted. It also reverses to a blower for clearing the garden paths of debris. Very handy.

I can't be bothered with a barbecue. They're smoky and smelly and fiddly :(
It's bad enough having to kook at all, without taking it all outside, and having a lot of smoke and mess into the bargain :(

I once had a vac that could suck up water and blow leaves etc, but it was too heavy for me.
That's why I bought this small one. It does its job and I can move it without a struggle.

Your machine looks smart.

Thanks. As long as I can move it easily it suits me :)
When it's older been and used a lot I don't suppose it will look so shiny lol

That's lateral thinking - I'd never have thought of using an ash vac outside. Lots of garden gadgets are so heavy, and also designed for average to tall people so small people like us have great difficulty with them.

Quite right :)

It has done a fabulous job Hywel. So much to clean up at this time of year anything that makes things easier.?

It looks like a very handy gadget and a lot easier to manage than lots designed for the garden. A good idea!

That seems a useful tool....better than all that sweeping and bending to pick up in a dustpan.

They're useful for indoor wood stoves and fireplaces, too. They have a very fine filter so that the ashes won't be spread by the exhaust. What a coincidence!...just saw one advertised in a Home Hardware flyer on sale for 80$ CDN. "6.3 amp motor, HEPA cartridge filter and 2 stage filtration system." Was thinking it might be a good investment for this winter as I have a shopvac but it doesn't have the filtration and I fear it's just spreading dust around.

What a good idea..bought one last year for the stove ash but steps & patio ..now there's a good thought!

That looks a handy piece of kit Hywel although Bathgate's comment made me think. I have one of those wet and dry vacs in the garage, and yes it was very handy a few years back when the river burst it's banks and we were flooded. I just might give it a try. It has a bigger size hose than my Henry so would probably take a few small stones. We'll see.

The garden hoover/blower tools are very heavy, I have two, gained the extra one when my youngest moved house, now she comes and borrows it at this time of the year, lol, I often use hubby's vax to hoover up outside in our little leanto, he caught me using it one time on the patio and wasn't best pleased, worried in case I blocked the hose and why wasn't I using my garden hoover for gardening jobs, I ask you, I'm a housewife and know exactly how to unblock the flipping hose, I think he got my message, lol, anyway he's more likely to block the darn thing in his shed with some of the stuff that ends up on the floor. That looks a handy little gadget and has certainly done a good job, anything that saves our backs and shoulders is a good buy to my way of thinking...

Did you wrap the hose around OH's neck Sue ! lol
This little gadget is all right but the hose isn't very long so I have to kneel down to use it, then it's a job to get up again ... I can't bend at all so have to kneel down.
They didn't say the hose length in the advert, but I'm still glad I bought it because I can move it around easily :)

This is a great time saver. We bought a similar one to clean the flues on the Esse cooker. I can now see there are lots of other uses for it.

It's amazing how quickly blisters can form when you're sweeping with a broom, Hb. I try to remember to wear gloves, but I'm afraid I'm not much of a glove person!

20 Sep, 2016

I only wear gloves if I'm carrying bricks or something similar. Never when gardening.

Looks to be a very useful cleaner.......we need power washer for the slabs they are disgusting!!

26 Sep, 2016

I have a power washer but I don't know how to use it - can't understand the instructions lol

lol :)

Now that's nifty, I didn't even know such a contraption existed let alone that it had such a handy secondary use!
