On holiday and visiting Spritzhenry!

We have just had a wonderful week in Somerset and one of the highlights was a visit to Spritzhenry, her OH and Henry.

After following the bossy woman on my sat-nav down ever decreasing roads, we pulled up outside one of the most gorgeous houses I’ve ever been lucky enough to visit.

We went in through the wooden gate and down the stone path towards the open front door only to be stopped in our tracks by the sound of a deep bark. Then the “doorman”, Henry, came bounding out to greet us closely followed by two people who I had never met before but I knew instantly to be Spritz and her OH, P.

After hugs, kisses and welcomes we were ushered through the house and into an equally gorgeous garden room for coffee and chat. There were even biscuits for Holly and I to enjoy but unfortunately I’m supposed to watch what I eat and Holly was more interested in playing with Henry.

After what seemed like only a few minutes but in fact was around an hour I got to see what was promised from the view through the windows.

I’ve tried several times now, but it is beyond me to describe the sheer beauty of the gardens that I was so privileged to have a private tour of. Holly loved discovering all the different “rooms” and trotting down the paths to see what lay around the next corner. Me, I was totally blown away by the sheer hard work and knowledge that has gone into every inch of those gardens!

Here and there are little seating areas, obviously there to take in the magnificent views and to do what these gardens were designed for………. Sitting and enjoying the vista’s so beautifully framed by the expert planting which can only come from total devotion and years of very hard work.

Take a look!

I could go on adding photos all night but I have made a YouTube video that shows a lot more plus some of the other highlights of our holiday.

Just watched your holiday video Ian it looks as though you all had a good time, and the area looks lovely , Holly must have enjoyed meeting Henry and I like your photos of Spritzhenrys garden .

Glad you enjoyed your West Country holiday. :o)

24 Jul, 2010

Such a lovely way to start the day by watching your holiday video ! I'm exhausted watching Holly, so much energy, what do you feed her on ? LOL

Pleased you visited Spritzs garden, many happy memories for you now.
Hope the chickens are well, especially you-know-who ... ! ! : o )))

24 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog and video glad you had a great time and you got to see one of my most 'want to visit gardens'.

24 Jul, 2010

Thank you all, we had a marvellous time both at Spritz's and for the rest of the week.

Holly never sat still from first light until lights out. She ran riot all day and danced in the club all night! Whatever she is eating I want double helpings! Lol

That video is all I managed to get of her as the rest of the time she was just to fast and all I could see was her back disappearing around the next bend

The chooks are in fine form and have almost cleared the whole area of their pen of nettles and weeds. I'm going to move them down the garden step by step until they've done the whole lot for me! Lol

As I said, we had a great time but it was sooooo nice to sleep in my own bed again last night!

24 Jul, 2010

Hey! Did you HAVE to take photos of our dustbin? LOL.

It was wonderful to meet you and Holly at last. I'm glad you had such a lovely week...where are those go-karts? Are they on the Holiday Park?

It's amazing how much energy 7 year-olds have. I wish I had half of hers!

24 Jul, 2010

Hi Spritz. Yes the go-carts were on the park and she surprised everyone when she came off and said "can I drive your car now daddy?" ! ! ! ! !

Holly was up at six again this morning and is now chasing next doors toddler (Thomas) around their garden!

Oh yes, sorry about the dustbin! Lol

Carol says we have to come back so she can come and look around as well!.............. (Perhaps next year. Lol)

24 Jul, 2010

That would be great - I was sorry I could only just say 'Hallo' to her, and not be able to show her the garden too. So when's Holly's first driving leson then? LOL.

I should have disguised the dustbin - I didn't know it was going to be the star attraction! ;-)

24 Jul, 2010

So pleased you enjoyed your holiday and meeting Spritz...:))

24 Jul, 2010

just watched your video.... glad you had a lovely holiday, and lovely pics of spritz garden......

24 Jul, 2010

Spritz, any part of your house can be the star attraction. Lol.
I think I'll leave Holly's driving lessons for a while yet, perhaps until she's 18 and I'll be...... OH MY ..... I'll be ............ I'm not telling you that! Lol

It was so much fun Clarice and visiting spritz has inspired me to get going on my garden. I've started laying a patio today!

Holly, I have found another couple of hours of video I had put on a memory stick and forgot about so be prepared! Lol

24 Jul, 2010

Thank you Avis XX

25 Jul, 2010

looks like you had a great time Ian. I bet you got lots of ideas to inspire you during your visit to Spritzs garden

25 Jul, 2010

Yes Mageth - a black dustbin! LOL.

25 Jul, 2010

Lol Spritz,

I was so inspired Mageth, I'm half way through building a patio and it was only the rain that stopped me from finishing it.

25 Jul, 2010

Lovely blog Ian, I'm so jealous, but glad you both enjoyed it so much:-) Going to look at you tube now:-)

25 Jul, 2010

Rain? What rain? We need it - it's windy and cloudy, but no rain at all.

25 Jul, 2010

Same here Spritz and I'm fed up watering, and the sweet peas are no longer sweet, they keep growing seed pods as soon as my back is turned:-(

25 Jul, 2010

: O )) look forward to seeing it....

25 Jul, 2010

Spritz, It had been a lovely day yesterday but it started raining about 8pm (ish) and didn't stop until way after midnight.

Thanks BA, we all enjoyed ourselves but only Holly would get in front of the camera! Lol

Holly I have done another video today at the zoo. If you click on the link above and go to my page on YouTube you can see it and all the others I have done for my site!

25 Jul, 2010

will have a look ... : O ))

25 Jul, 2010

Oh Ba - that's 'just' what my sweet peas are doing! I'm having to check on them every day - and I'm watering and feeding them, too - so they're picking up a bit, but normally I have jugs full of them all round the house. Not this year!

Ian - I'll take a look if I get a minute, but the family are here as you know. I enjoyed the first one - did you get to Tropiquaria and the puppet show?

25 Jul, 2010

Spritz, Holly really doesn't like closed in, darkened places like cinemas, theatres etc. so we didn't think it would be a very good idea but the "zoo" is Tropiquaria and it was a really great day out. Lovely and sunny and everyone had a good time.

If you do get a minute (or eight actually) watch the bit where we are in the pirate ship and holly's state when we are in the dark bit!

25 Jul, 2010

So pleased you had such a lovely holiday Ian. yes i watched your video and John was listening to the music making nice comments. So pleased you met Spritz she was one of the first people who made me so welcome on GoY. Her garden looked lovely. Yes I know all about energetic 7 year olds phew! My grandaughter has just turned 8 and has far too much energy.

25 Jul, 2010

It was marvellous Homebird, good weather (for most of the time) beautiful scenery, plenty of action and of course meeting Spritz, her OH and Henry.

Hiya Sue, Pleased you liked the video as well. I've gone a bit "YouTube crazy" at the minute Lol. Nobody can move for fear of turning up on there!
I do have all on trying to keep up with Holly, she has more energy than the national grid! Lol

25 Jul, 2010

I've got grandson aged 9 here at the moment, Ian - he and Holly would be a match for each other in the energy stakes, I reckon. PHEW!!

26 Jul, 2010

Lol Spritz, I can put her in the post (First class! Lol) and they can work each other to a stand still!

26 Jul, 2010

Great Blog Ian, so glad you enjoyed your holiday and lovely to see the photos of Spritz's garden, I haven't had a chance to see your video yet but will get around to it.

26 Jul, 2010

Thanks Doctorbob, It was a very well earned break (although I didn't get much rest! Lol) We all had an excellent time away and visiting Spritz and family was one of the best days ever!

26 Jul, 2010

Loved your blog on your holidays, Ian! I also watched your YouTube video, it was very good & the effects were worthy of a professional!

Looking forward to your photos of your new patio.

26 Jul, 2010

Thanks Balcony,
I've been googling different video editors because I think Windows Live Movie Maker is a bit basic. You see I've always liked playing with video and effects and have found WLMM a bit lacking in features but unless I spend a fortune on one I don't think I'm going to get anything better! :~((

26 Jul, 2010

You lucky so and so Ian - I would dearly love to see Spritz's garden, haven't had a reason to go to the west country yet though. How's it feel to be famous, Spritz, lol!

27 Jul, 2010

Great! I'd love to meet more GOY-ers...Come on down...:-)))

27 Jul, 2010

My problem is I won't drive that far, I'd end up in hospital in a car for that long, lol! So it has to be on the train, and then you've got the "where will I stay" thing to worry about, not to mention actually getting to your house, which I'm pretty sure isn't conveniently next to a railway station!

27 Jul, 2010

I think a holiday in Somerset would be a real benefit to you Bamboo. Get away from all of your dried up grass etc. and there are some nice looking hotels and B&B's around that part of the world!

27 Jul, 2010

You could well be right, Ian - but it'll have to wait till next year - my poor old mum still taking up time and energy, but, she's going into residential at end of this week - not sure if that's worse or not though, I'll probably worry more.

27 Jul, 2010

As you know Bamboo, my mum and yours are in very similar situations and I can fully understand how you feel. I know it's not her "home" but at least she will have 24/7 experienced carers to look after her.

I think that if my dad and brothers weren't there to look after my mum then I would most definitely look at finding a really good place for her. My dad can't bring himself to go into a home and won't be parted from mum (obviously) so we're stuck with the situation.

Good luck with it all and I hope she settles in OK. xx

27 Jul, 2010

Thanks.

27 Jul, 2010

Your welcome. xx

27 Jul, 2010

If you've found a good Care Home, Bamboo, you will feel a great sense of relief. Been there, done that. Hope the move goes well. xx

28 Jul, 2010

Hmm, well that's the problem isn't it - any care home's only as good as the staff working in it.

28 Jul, 2010

That's perfectly true..but I'm sure you had a good look round and checked all the facilities - especially, what were the residents doing on your visits? Did you manage to talk to any of them?

28 Jul, 2010

There are lots of horror stories out there Bamboo but that's only because no-one tells of the good places, only the bad ones make it into the press!
I'm sure that within a few weeks of you visiting your mum you will know which type of place it is!

28 Jul, 2010

Well my mum's usually a very lucky person, I expect she'll have been placed somewhere that turns out to be absolutely fine, but its difficult to know when they've lost their marbles, they can't tell you anything about what goes on behind the scenes.

28 Jul, 2010

I know - and I can empathise with that. It's tough. :-((

See PM.

28 Jul, 2010

Just read this, Ian! Fantastic!!! And - you got it all to yourselves, too!!!!

What can I say, Spritz? Did my own blog last year - you folks, and your garden areas, are fantastic!!!!! Great to see Henry playing with Holly!! :-)) X

30 Jul, 2010

They both enjoyed the visit - and I know Ian did too. :-))

30 Jul, 2010

I loved visiting Spritz, OH, and Henry, David. It has inspired me to get going again in my garden. I had left it for a while but now you can't keep me out of it! Lol

30 Jul, 2010

Inspired indeed Ian and no wonder!

Looks like you had a great time and so lucky to have experienced that fabulous garden.

Hope the week went well in general.

3 Aug, 2010
