My intensive care nursery

Can you remember, some time ago, I posted a photo of some bulbs and corms we had bought from Tesco at 50p and 1p each?
This one …………….
Well we were worried that they were so cheap because they were ‘past their sell by date’ So I decided to create/design an intensive care unit to try and bring them on.
It’s a large planter with a sheet of glass over it !
Just a cheap plastic one!
I took a selection of the bulbs and corms and planted them in pots.
Then stacked the pots inside and put on the ‘lid’
and just three days later ……………
we have our first success
Carol wrote the label so I’m not sure if its one type of plant or two?
Any ideas?

Sorry can`t help with plant names Ian but your idea with the glass over the newly planted bulbs is a great one hope all your little "patients" bloom really well :~))))

Morning all,
Hatter I think your right there may well be two types in the one pot. :~))
Mobee, I didn't know if it would work, but as I say it was kind of an experiment to see if they will grow. I have kept over half of the bulbs/corms we had and will plant them in the spring but these can go into the greenhouse over winter! :~))

Hatter, I've just realized what you meant by mixy uppy one. It says Ixia it's the name of an Anemone! ! !

Ian, you would do slightly better by lifting the plastic cover a little above the planter to allow plenty of air to circulate. The bulbs you have do not mind the cold and your idea of giving them a little protection from the severe weather is a good one.

No need to mess with it too much, Ian. Lay a couple of wooden battens across the top of the box and lay the cover on that. Maybe a length of cord with a brick on each end stretched over the cover to stop it blowing away? Keep them just damp until they start to grow.

Thanks, Bulba. They are all starting to grow. I put them like this to try to 'force' them on to see if they would still grow and these and some Californion poppy's have come up so far. so fingers crossed they will all produce next spring! ! !

Yes Ian you have 3 types of bulbs there. It's like they're in a little cold frame and it's a good idea to allow ventilation. :o)

Thanks Hywel, can you see why everyone loves this site so much? Because there are so many kind members willing to offer help and advice, I wouldn't have thought of that, but I'm pleased I posted this blog now! :~))

So, how are they coming along, Ian? I'm a bit behind with everyone's news at present!

I wondered where you had gone? I'll get a photo of them when I get a new camera, I dropped mine and then ran it over with my scooter and then dropped my phone in a glass of orange juice! ! ! :~((

What are you, some kind of accident prone freak??? Nobody is that accident prone! I hope you haven't suffered any more damage to your person.

I hold my hands up to that one. I've had 5 or 6 phones so far this year and now Carol has bought me one of these things that go around my neck to hang my new phone on. I've already nearly strangled myself in the shed with it! Lol
