Intensive care/surgery chapter two

I have this plant, it’s not a big plant, infact it’s a tiny plant ……….
You see, earlier this year Spritzhenry was kind enough to send me some cuttings.
2 Penstemon ‘Garnet’ ……… Which are doing fantastic.

1 Arabis ‘Rose Delight’ ………Which has ……. well, …….. disappeared from the garden? ? ? ? ?

And 1 (this) Coridalis Ochaleuca which is doing, ……. well, not so good

It started out like this, in a tiny pot and had never been potted on because we thought it was dead! :-((

This week we noticed that there was still life in it yet.

SO I rushed it to the ‘Diggery’ hospital and started surgery stright away.

I amputated several limbs and then applied some cold/damp compost all around. (In a bigger pot! ! !)

The patient is now out of intensive care and is resting, doing well.

There's nowt like a bit of intensive care to perk a plant up Ian, thats all I did with the chocolate cosmos and its flowered again.

Did you speak nicely to it as well Ian theres nothing like a new bed for what ails it? Heres hoping.

29 Sep, 2009

Daft as a brush!! But I'm glad your plant is thriving!!

Glad to see there is still life......Where there is life there is hope. Be careful not to over water the Corydalis....they don't like to be constantly wet despite what you would expect with these plants. :o)

Thanks all ;~))
Bob, I have no idea what I was doing but I just did as I was told by others.
Hatter, my brushes aren't daft, well I don't know to be sure as I don't spend much time talking to them ? ? ? ?
Cheers Gilli, the first bit of constructive advice, thats probably what 'did' for it in the first place - to much water. ;~((

A bit of care and attention does a power of good Ian, we`ve all probably overwatered in our time,I know I have many a time, your little plant should romp away now..........

The only reason I know about the water Ian is because I was doing the same thing with the plants at work. Oops!! We all learn from experience.

Yes!

It's not a good idea to give up on a plant too soon. I had some fuchsias that I thought were dead from last winter's cold weather. I put them aside in order to dispose of them but forgot to do it. Good job I did forget because now after all these months they are starting to
re-grow.
I'm glad you were able to save your little plant :o)

1 Oct, 2009

Thanks Hywel, it's not home free yet but we are giving it every chance to survive. :~))

2 Oct, 2009

Ah!! Pity!

2 Oct, 2009

I've just caught up with this blog - you didn't tell me that your Arabis had disappeared?? I have some more, and I'll nurture some for you over the winter.

I hope little 'Fred' recovers. Talk to him nicely, won't you - no raised voices in the ICU....LOL.

6 Oct, 2009

A little TLC does wonders for almost anything or anyone. I hope your plant perks up again but, personally, I would not have put an ailing plant into a much bigger pot - even less at the back end of the growing season! The reason being two fold,
1. An ailing plant, especially if it is from overwatering, would do better having dead growth removed, which you did, & having the wet compost changed for fresh compost & then put back into its original pot & kept rather on the dry side till new growth was observed.

2. The end of the growing season, when we are headed for longer, colder nights & less light for growing, isn't a good time to put a plant, even a healthy one, into a pot 3 or 4 times the size of the previous one, ideally you should move up just 1, or at most, 2 sizes, as the plant will sit in cold, wet compost all winter. That's the last thing you want for a plant that is trying to overcome overwatering!

AS I said earlier I really do hope your poor plant recovers!

12 Oct, 2009

Thanks Balcony, As you know I'm not very experienced with flowery things and veggies are either cropped and frozen by now or will stay as they are over the winter, so would this little thing be better off indoors or perhaps in my new greenhouse (when I finally get it put up!)?

12 Oct, 2009

If your greenhouse is going to be heated enough to keep it frost free then you can keep it in there otherwise bring it into the house when frost is forecast but try to keep it in thee coolest place in the house. You don't want it to grow much over the winter.

15 Oct, 2009

Thanks Balcony, much appreciated advice. :~))

15 Oct, 2009

Your welcome, Ian! I really do hope that your plant will survive the winter.
