Last of the summer blooms!

Well it seems to be the time of year that we take a last stroll around the garden and view our years labours with a smug self satisfied grin on our faces, and why not?
We’ve toiled,
and laboured
We’ve dug,
and sown.
and in my case marvelled at the beauty of it all
and now it is all coming to an end.
Will I do it all again?
To right I will! ! !
I couldn’t have it any other way.
So a special thank you to all the lovely people of GoY, who have laughed with me, cried with me and generally chatted on our “grown up Facebook”
Don’t worry I’ll still be here tomorrow. Lol
I just thought it would be a good time to look back over a very important year in my life. I’ve gone from being a carer of my beautiful wife to being cared for myself. From a big burly lorry driver to a big burly scooter driver. I have introduced my six yr. old daughter to the delights of growing things and learnt how to grow things myself.
The longer standing members will remember a certain blog about Latin names for flowers that I said I would never be able to remember but now they roll off my tongue as if I was born to it.
A final “Thank you” has to go to Peter and Ajay for their sterling work in the ‘back room’
Oh and one more thing,
I geuss I ought to say something about the brains behind my brawn!
The prettifier behind my desire!
The artist beside my wishes!
That’ll be Carol then ?

The garden's looking great Ian, that front border has really filled out. Such a shame that it will all be gone soon....but there's always next year to plan for. It's not only the plants that have grown, so have you in all sorts of unexpected ways, who'd have thought 'flowery things' and latin names would get you in their clutches! :o)) Lovely blog.

Awwwww now I'm blushing, I don't know what you mean about next year? There is absolutely no doubt that I will still be here for the next 10 - 20 years (hopefully) getting bigger and better each year.
Oh and about the veg? they were a total and utter disaster this year, :~(( but there are plans afoot so watch this space .......... Well not that space obviously but you know what I mean! ;~))

Ian....what a great blog :) But please, don't see the end of summer as the end of the gardening year. There's loads of delights still to come....and I hope, like me, you'll enjoy your garden all year round (apart from end of November, which is when I struggle a bit...lol). Wishing you loads more "Happy Gardening"....and lots more "flowery things" to come :)

I've already realised that Di, what with winter pansies and cyclemen etc. and then the spring bulb planting plus the changes that are afoot, I'm going to be busier than ever. :~))

You've done such a lot Ian. Your garden looks lovely. But it isn't the end - it's just one season changing into another. It's an on-going thing, constant change. It's nice to look back on the previous season, nice to enjoy the present one, and nice to look forward to the next. I've enjoyed being with you through the summer and hope to have your company through the winter aswell. Thank you :o)
30 Sep, 2009
Awww thanks Hywel, that was really kind of you. :~))
I'm beginning to see this now, here's me thinking I would be getting a rest for a few weeks/months when its quite obvious that flower/plant gardeners never sleep not like the softer veggie types .... Lol

Thank you Balcony, I have to say that everyone who passes while we are out there comments on them. :~))))))))))))))))))
12 Oct, 2009
Just as some people comment to me on my balcony. Just yesterday a lady came up to my balcony while I was watering & said how beautiful it looked.
15 Oct, 2009
Well to be honest Balcony, they would have to be blind or daft not to enjoy your planting, it amazes me how you get so much in there.
15 Oct, 2009
It means planting in 3 tiers, one on the floor of the balcony, up against the railings, which I covered in chicken wire when we moved in 8 years ago so the 5 dogs we had at that time could go out onto the balcony but not escape into the street. Then a 2nd tier goes on the cross bar of the railings & are stopped from falling off by the chicken wire. A 3rd tier is in the rings I brought back from using on my balconies in Spain. Then there are the vertical strings that plants climb up & the hanging baskets from the ceiling of the balcony as well as 2 baskets on brackets at both ends of the railings. Not forgetting the 2 pouches on the walls.
Then the greenhouse & the hanging baskets that hang from the balcony ceiling further in.
Have a look here:

As you will be able to see the photo full size you will be able to appriciate how the balcony is planted up.
