A Day Out ~By Carol Digs!
This Sunday we decided we needed some fresh air so I agreed to drive our enormous mini-bus to Skegness (our local seaside town) As some of you know Ian suffered another mini stroke last week so he isn’t able to drive and I only got my provisional licence about 2 weeks ago. (which means I have had 2 weeks to practice driving!) I would not mind if we had a normal car but because we both need mobility scooters it means we need this:-……….
This is the beauty.
And the reason we need such a big van.
Here is Holly enjoying some of the rides
On the “Merry-go-Round”
And the “Tea-Cups”
Riding in the “TT”
Ian got a bit tired and went back to the car for a nap while I had Holly on the rides but all in all it was voted a very good day out by all 3 of us.
I have now worked out how to get to Tycross zoo, Drayton Manor theme park and Alton Towers (another theme park) without using motorways so there will be no holding us back during the Easter school holidays.
My apologies to those of you that will read this on Ians own web site as I have written the same blog on there!
I hope you dont mind me writing this but I am sure there are some members that wanted to know how Ian was getting on and I figured this would show them that he is getting better.
Carol xx

Sorry to hear about Ian - hope he's well on the mend? Glad you all enjoyed your day out. Hope the weather's good so you can enjoy many more.

That was a brainwave! Good practice for you, fresh air, different places for Ian, and solving the problem of Holly's holidays all in one go! Well done. Love 'n' hugs. xxx

Thank you for your kind thoughts. I was really scared when we set off as I have only driven around quiet back roads but Ian gave me plenty of encouragmnet and when he went to sleep I took it that he was confident in me to do it on my own. He is very proud of his driving (being a lorry driver) and must have thought me capable or he wouldn't have left me to it.

Keep up the good work Carol and you and Ian have every right to be chuffed with your achievements - there's nothing like encouragment and necessity to boost our self confidence. The smile on Holly's face is a lesson for us all.
A big hug to you all xx

Like Terry says you have every right to be pleased with what you both do, hope all the 3 of you have a really nice easter weekend.x
30 Mar, 2010
Thank you, Terry and Clarice. I feel very "chuffed" with making it all the way there and back and Ian says when I pass my test he is going to sit in the back and watch DVD's with Holly. The weather is not looking so good for the rest of this week but now I've taken the first step then I am determined not to sit in all the time.

Hi Carol, lovely to hear from you again but I'm so sorry to hear about Ian. You are so brave driving that beast (the car, not Ian!), I'm not a brave driver at all so I know how you feel but well done for tackling it and giving you all a good family day out. I hope Ian is behaving himself .....love to you all xx
30 Mar, 2010
I'm sure a day out made you all feel better, cabin fever can set in if not careful! Well done on driving the beast, determination to have more family days out will spur you on to passing the test I'm sure!
Hope Ian is continuing to feel better. :-))
30 Mar, 2010

Like Dr Bob I had no idea Ian had been ill! :-( I had missed his blogs & comments. All my best wishes for a speedy recovery for Ian. You must feel the strain the extra work gives you, Carol, so enjoy the excursions the three of you together & make the most of the time you spend together. Wish Ian all the best from me, will you?
It's nice to see Holly enjoying herself on the funfair rides! We were chuffed to bits to see how happy our granddaughter was yesterday when we went to her place for dinner being as it was her 3rd birthday. :-) She had been a little "under the weather" in the last few weeks. It maybe because of the allergies the spring sets off or that she seems to be cutting a couple of double teeth. We had been hoping it wasn't Chicken Pox as there are cases around here of late.
Hope you can get out & about during the Easter holidays even if the weather isn't too promising.
31 Mar, 2010
Well guess who's back?
IT'S ME, IAN!!!!
Thank you all for your lovely words and kind thoughts. I'm, obviously, not bacl to 100% but at least I can stay awake long enough to read them! Lol
We have had a rough old time this last couple of weeks but hopefully it's all behind us now. I'll try to get back on more often now.
Oh, we have asked the council for an exchange to a bigger bungalow, so fingers crossed for that!
P.S. I am going to have to keep an eye on my Mrs. She writes better blogs than I do!
31 Mar, 2010
lol ian, im so glad your doing ok, what a worry for you and your family, take care and dont try doing to much, good luck with getting a bigger place to,no more scares plez :o)) xx
31 Mar, 2010
Thanks San, I don't want any more scare either! Lol
They did some surgery on an artery in my neck to try and rectify the problem. Apparently this artery partially collapses and slow's the flow of blood to my brain. I can't understand how stopping the blood to an empty shell makes any difference but, hey, I'm not a Dr.
31 Mar, 2010
Nice to hear from you again, Ian. Now you take care and do as your told! Carole is in the driving seat now :) Seriously, I am glad you are making a good recovery and good luck with the quest for a bigger place, you deserve it. God bless.
31 Mar, 2010
glad you are up to being on GoY again Ian.
Delighted that you are feeling better dont over do it will you.
You must be really pleased with Carol. she has held the 'fort' ever so well.
take care of yourself.
love x
31 Mar, 2010
Glad you are improving Ian.....lets hope that bit of surgery does the trick. Good luck with the council too. :-) x
1 Apr, 2010
Hi Ian, I did wonder where you'd gone, hoped you hadn't gone the way of Bscott. I had no idea you'd been ill, but very pleased you're on the mend, you'll be fighting fit again soon. Carol, you are very brave.... living with Ian...only kidding. Lovely happy blog, lovely smiley Holly:-)
1 Apr, 2010
It's great to have you back with us once again, Ian! :-)
1 Apr, 2010
lol ian :o)) x
1 Apr, 2010
Welcome back from me too Ian. Just remember Carol is in charge so be a good boy! :o)) Lovely to have you back.
1 Apr, 2010
Great to hear (read) you Ian. So glad to hear you are on the mend. As for the surgery on your neck.....It's the empty spaces that cause the most problems.!!!! LOLOLOLOL....You'll have to replenish the supply of rocks you have stored up there. Hee hee hee,.
Seriously though....it is great to hear from you. I've been thinking of you all the time and wondering how you were getting on. Now, as Lily says....Carol is in charge (and a fantastic job she has been doing too!! You are a jewel Carol. xx), so be good and do as you're told....no getting ahead of yourself and doing too much. Slow and easy is the best. Wish I was there to do this in person but.....(((((((((HUG)))))))))))) xx
1 Apr, 2010
Do you know, I've tried and tried to write down how I feel right now. I've written it, deleted it and written it again but it still doesn't sound right so all I can say is:-
I'm glad I joined GoY and met all of you wonderful people. We have some lovely friends who are more than willing to help out but you lot are just the VERY BEST.
Thank you all for your kind words, both here and in PM's
I'm making good time with my recovery but have to go back into hospital next week to check that this thing they put in my neck is doing it's job and hasn't slipped or anything like that. (I'm sorry I can't be more precise but I wasn't listening while they were telling me. I was tired!) I can tell you this, I don't think I could ask for more caring friends than the people I have met here.
Lots of love and big hugs to everyone,
Ian xx

2 Apr, 2010
Hi Holly, sorry I've not answered before but thank you and yes I am (now) I've been a bit rough for the last couple of days but I'm getting there!
Holly has been really good about her Easter eggs! She's only eating one at a time but I'm not saying how long each one lasts!!!
3 Apr, 2010
LOL... Ian.... hope you all have a good easter weekend.......
4 Apr, 2010
Well, Holly has eaten enough chocolate to keep Cadbury's going for another year and now she's complaining about belly-ache "but I can still eat some more tomorrow, can't I daddy" There's no cure for her! Lol
Who said chocolate came with a set of rules anyway?
I hope your Easter is as nice as ours Holly, We've had glorious sun shine but a cold wind. I managed to get the grass cut but had some help from my support group! (Carol and Holly Lol)
4 Apr, 2010

5 Apr, 2010
Good to hear you are getting out & about, Ian! Just don't try to do too much. It'll all be waiting for you later. It won't be going anywhere. (That's what I tell myself about all the work that needs to be done on the allotment! LOL!)
Today we've had a cold wind all day with lots of clouds in the morning. This afternoon we've been having a lot more sunshine but then the clouds come along & spoil it again.
5 Apr, 2010
