All My Baby Plants i grew from Seed Last yr now need to be Potted on ready 4 The Car Boots i plan on Doing come Spring /Summer :) So iv had a Brain Wave after Seeing those Paper Pot Makers Costing a Good £18 in some places 2 Purchase which i thought 2much for me or You 2 Buy ?

1st Grab a Pile Of Old Papers

2nd Grab a Baked Bean/Cat Food Tin & Make some Long Stripes from those Papers " U may need 2 Experement for a bit 2 get the Paper Dept Size u want right "I Made them Same Height as Tin Itself :)

3rd Now Place the Tin on Stripe close to u with about 1 1/2inchs over edge of the Tin & Roll "Not To Tight As This Is 2 be Slide Off Tin "

4th Now pick up the Tin with the open End Faceing You Holding it closed with your Thumb so it dont unwind from Tin ,

Look Inside it should look like this where the 1 1/2 inch was left above the Tin B4 u Rolled it

5th Now Firmly Push all the Paper Down & Around the Lid Lip Starting @ the Paper Opening this will stop it from Unwhinding when youv finished ,Now Push/Twist The Folded end on2 a Hard Surface Book/Floor to give a nice Flat Bottom which makes the Pot Stand

Put Tin Down Does It Stay On The Tin Like This ?

6th Ok it Stayed On Tin Now You Can Remove It Youv Got Your News Paper Pot

Go On Give It Ago & Make as Many as U Want/Need

These Can Be Planted Straight into the Ground/Soil No Messing About with Removing & If You Want Bigger/Smaller Pots Just use a Tin the Size u need ;) Enjoy x

Brillant idea Jacque ,very good instructions I like the way that they will dissolve in the soil , If you want some solid pots Jacque at Del,s nursery you can buy 50 pots for £1 ...

22 Jan, 2009

Great blog and such clear instructions. Hope to give this a try but newspapers are in short supply here as I use so many for the tortoises (and I don't buy any!). Something for me to try once they are in the garden.

Great blog Jacque. I bought one of those wooden pot makers and promptly lost the instructions on how to make the pots. After reading your blog I wish I hadn't forked over the money. Now with your instructions I not only know how to make different sized pots but I know how to use my wooden pot maker too.!! Excellent. Thanks Jacque. :o)))

INGENIOUS! Perhaps instead of just selling the plants at the boot sale, you could sell instruction sheets to make the pots.

22 Jan, 2009

ooohhh how bout winding them around a toilet roll? that might work if i stick some play dough in the end to get a flat bottom....we might just give that a go tomorrow.

22 Jan, 2009

oppss think we crossed there! i will includes some pic's - she is just getting so big, it's scary, she is also getting all excited about the willow te-pi we are going to make, i just hope the weather gets better so i can get the ground work done, while she is at school in the next week or so, then she can be out with me doing all the good bits, recon i might need an extra pair of hands.

22 Jan, 2009

It mite work Ang :) Little 1s soon grow up i cant belive how fast time goes when their small ! My 2 Children are 17/19 this Spring ,Shocking isnt it :)

22 Jan, 2009

That is so clever Jacque. I will have to look at the computer whilst attempting to make one and follow the instructions very carefully. When my children were small they used to beg me not to make anything shown on Blue Peter - stickyback plastic and me were a disaster. I'm not great with sellotape either but I shall certainly give your paper pots a go.

22 Jan, 2009

wow, excellent idea.

Good instructions...

22 Jan, 2009

Goodness Jac - do you realise you've done 80 blogs!! Think that deserves a pat on the back!

Thanks for showing how you make these paper pots - I had been wondering how it was done! I will defo be trying this as I have LOTS of seeds to sow this spring that I got from doing swaps and I know I wont have enough pots to go round!

23 Jan, 2009

thankyou for sharing :)

23 Jan, 2009

Jacque, its been pouring all day here in Essex so I have spent the morning making pots as per your instructions. They have turned out brilliantly, and I cant believe how easy to do when you know how. Made about 60 so far, but thats a good start ready for when seed start to germinate. Thanks for the tip Jacque,,,Lol

23 Jan, 2009

Excellent idea Jacque, have just read a gardening article in a posh mag and they say to start sweet peas that way as they resent being disturbed? will print it out so hubby can follow your instructions, thanks.

24 Jan, 2009

Great blog and very helpfull

25 Jan, 2009

Wish I'd read this earlier! Today bought some black plastic pots which I thought were good value - 12 for 89p; but since my greenhouse is bursting with Autumn-sown seeds that were potted on & now ready for 5" pots I will need loads. Especially if selling at car boots where cost is an issue. Never thought to do it before. So I have just knocked one up as a trial (Heinz baked beans make good 3" ones). I wonder if my 3yr old will be able to do them !!!
:)Put a pic on for you to see first attempt.

28 Jan, 2009

Hi Hollyhead great 2 hear your going 2 have a go2 :) How u enjoying GOY ? :)

28 Jan, 2009

Hi Jacque...I have spent the morning rolling pots...that sounds a bit off !!.....I have spent the morning MAKING pots...there that's better. LOL
I found that some of my pots didn't want to stand up straight as the newspaper was still a bit bumpy on the bottom no matter how hard I squashed them....so....I used my water spritzer that I use for misting my houseplants and just gave the bottom of the pot 2 small sprays to just dampen the paper. This made the bottom squash flat a lot better.....don't use too much water though or they'll tear.
I don't know if anyone else was having the same problem....maybe its just the way I'm making them.

28 Jan, 2009

great idea jaque, hope your planned carboot sales are a success...............................steve

I've been assigned the "natural science" teacher at our preschool. I can't wait to make these with the children :) Great, green idea :) Thanks a lot for the blog. I'll post some pics after we've planted our maple seedlings. Also if anyone has any ideas of activities involving natural science or gardening with young children please leave me a PM. Thanks :) Tracy
