hi all, i called in my local second hand shop the other day and saw some wicker garden furniture, knowing oh had fancied a “proper” chair for outside i thought i would get 2 chairs (the one on the left is a rocker) table and shelves thinking i would put a chair and table on one allotment and a chair and shelves on the other..for £7 .. i thought it was a bargain £3.50 per plot great..hubby picked it up next day as i had reserved and paid for it..
he only came back with all the furniture they had.." i could not resist it at that price " he said, another £7..with cushions thrown in ..now i know it was a bargain and the cushions were thrown in ..my bin..but got nowhere to put it all, its too good to put it all on allotments and too big for my garden ..whatever i do with it im going to spray paint it first…
and oh isnt allowed near the shop again lol..

LOL, Joan, I'm just feeling a bit sunny, which is reflected in avatar ! Perhaps you could allot a piece of furniture to the other allotment holders, I'm sure they would appreciate your kindness ! Disappointed there's no basket (case) !

lol Shirley ,i can just imagine the site now, all colour co-ordinated wherever you look there is a white chair or table lol...

They look better than what you see in B&Q all glass n' plastic. What a bargain they are classie. Mind you if you do spray paint them, it'll cost more than the furniture.

Excuse me for saying....but I am so envious! These are beautiful :) I hope you can find a space for them at such a bargain price you've really done well! I like them as is really....with some pretty cushions they'd look so lovely.
My dream home would have a large surround porch and be filled with this kind of furniture and lots of blooms potted up. Dreaming again..............

ha ha Whiston, they would look good on a porch or in a conservatory but we have neither..the shop i got them from is packed to the roof with stuff all the time so they sell everything dirt cheap to get rid of it :o)

At Chelsea you see 'modernists' using all sorts of materials but for me a garden should never have anythink but iron and wood or better still wicker. I hate to see plastic glass or steel. I know it's comfortable long lasting and cheap but then so are plastic flowers.

I think that I will have to and have a look round the secondhand shops in my area and see if I can find anything like that, it would look nice on my patio, a lot better than the plastic chairs and tables that I have. It sure was a bargain that you got for 14 pounds ( sorry my german keyboard doesn´t have the "pound" key), that is roughly just over 14 euros!.

it is certainly worth a look Roqi, you never know what you may find..most of plant pots, chairs, tables shelves we have in sheds on allotment are from this shop for a few £s..hope you find a bargain, you will have to let us know if you do...is that a hint ..it would look nice on your patio...it would probably cost a fortune to ship it over ..lol..:o))

I love bargains like this. There used to be a shop in Malmesbury on the square which sold everything from an anchor to a complete bedroom suite. We got lots of bargains from him. In Newcastle there are loads of shops selling second hand items. I picked up a beautiful hand painted bowl for 50p. I carefully placed it on the seat beside me to keep it safe. At a roundabout a lorry suddenly came thundering out of a building site and I nearly went through the windscreen trying to save my bowl. Unfortuneately it cracked and the culprit escaped. Another time we bought two Ercol chairs for £10. We went looking for an upholstrer to recover them. One had a three seater settee to match. The price was £1200 plus the materials to recover. I did the chairs myself and try to forget what might have been. Are you allowed large greenhouses on the allotment you could invite all the neighbouring allotment holders in for coffee.

hi Scotsgran, what a shame about your bowl it could have been worth a small fortune,i bet you did a good job of recovering the chairs at a fraction of the cost lol..we do have greenhouses on the plots but not big enough for a cafe lol ..:o))
5 Sep, 2010
That is a shame. I'm sure you will not have a problem re homing what you do not need. I still have my bowl and enjoy it every day. I still have the chairs too and if I say so myself I did a good job on them. Pity about the settee though. I would have liked that.

you may still find one on ebay lol..:o))
