Everybody used to buy barm cakes in the Corner Shop on Coronation Street years ago! Barm cake is type of bread roll with flour on top. It has a characteristically strong flavour that comes from the traditional barm leaven made from a natural leaven with the addition of hops. (I bet you're impressed!) The Pensioners Special certainly is! It's 50p dearer and no peas!

this has just reminded me of a couple we met in Benidorm once,who invited us over for a weekend,when we got home.When they were preparing the evening meal,we were asked if we wanted one potato,or two,and our daughter and theirs had to share a lamb chop.! A.very memorable weekend indeed,for lots of other reasons.as well.House of Horrors come to mind...We laugh about it now,but needless to say,we didn't keep in touch! I think,6 chips would have been a banquet :o)))

ha ha bloomer,thats a story to tell isnt it lo. share a chop , im crying here ...with laughter..you just reminded me of something saying house of horrors i stayed in spooky hotel in cornwall years ago on hols animals heads mounted all over walls ,it was soo dark we could hardly see where we were going, room we had had chains hung from walls& a trap door over bed ,we stayed just one night & pushed cupboard up to the door.lol

If this wasn't a gardenening forum,I could tell you about a few more places we have stayed...but thank goodness,most have been good.Its funny to look back though:o)
