Whitby Washout 🌧😂

Well, a day trip to Whitby was definitely a washout! The last time we were there – July 2019 – it was baking hot and the sun shone gloriously!
Yesterday, we arrived to muggy drizzle. We did manage to have a good wander round and enjoy some local fish and chips.
I did feel for the tourists and the youngsters…there was a sea of umbrellas all over and the inevitable yellow raincoats!!!
We drove home via Scarborough, the rain was sheeting down!!!! There were lots of cyclists peddling faster to get back to their hotels, campsites or B & B’s. We saw a family on the road with their poor dog sat on the front of the Dad’s bicycle, drenched right through!
Scarborough was a washout for the surfers and beach goers! Although, we spotted some ‘brave’ swimsuit clad people paddling in the sea!!!!!! Unbelievable! There were some people catching the surf too.
We should have stayed at home – sunshine and 23 degrees yesterday. Oh well, at least we had been entertained by the sights, albeit not the normal summer sights! 😂
View of the Abbey ruins from under a shop canopy!
Harbour.
Some crazy, determined beach goers!
Home at last! Yesterday teatime and it was glorious!!! Should have stayed at home instead! 😂

Lovely photos, and at least you were adventurous and went for a day out. I've always wanted to go to Whitby ... still hope to one day!

What a shame.

Such a pity for you and all those on holiday but as always your photos recorded it perfectly and I loved reading about it too!!

It must have been so disappointing for you having travelled all that way!
It's amazing how the weather changes from one part of the east coast to another as it was sunny and warm here!
I love all your photos though even though it was a drizzly day.
And you still got your fish n chips!

oh what a shame. But for those in the sea they are already wet haha. Mum used to tell us to get out the sea when it rained as we'd get wet!! She meant she'd get wet but the 'we' meant all the family.
Whitby is still brilliant especially if you get the good fish and chips. We usually go 6 times a year just for the day.

Lovely blog Kate, a pity it rained but I did enjoy your photos, and the fish and chips sound delicious .

I struggled through 'Dracula' a couple of years ago, so interested to see your photos, Kate. Reminds me of late summer hols with my g'parents on the Lancashire coast. It always seemed to blow a gale and throw out horizontal rain. Happy Days!

Thank you, Klahanie, happy to hear you like the pics! Honestly, by the time we drove through Scarborough...the rain so vertical and heavy!!!

Thanks Sheila! Yes, have to agree, it was certainly an adventure! If you get the chance it is a lovely place to visit, the surrounding area is beautiful too, even in the rain!!!

Sue, I felt for people on holiday!

Chris, many thanks, nice to hear you enjoyed my interpretation of the day! I did try to add some humour 😄

We were disappointed, Rose. It's 67 miles from here, an hour and 40 minutes. Our first day trip, a few years ago, was so lovely. It was the weather of course. Thanks for liking the blog, fish and chips.. definitely worth it!

Eileen, you really made me giggle! 👍😂
Loved your Mum's rationale!!!!
You're right, it's still a great place to visit. Lots of quirky and quaint shops...little lanes and steep passages. Boat trips, fish and chips, museums and the Gothic Abbey to boot. Have you every managed to ride up there on your motorbikes??

Thank you, Callie. Good to hear you like the blog and the pics. We actually ended up in the same place for fish and chips as last time!
The eateries were all chocks busy as people were escaping the humid drizzle

Thanks for your feedback, Ange, interesting too.
I watched Dracula too - was it the series that was on BBC?
They really play on the Dracula 'connection' in Whitby.
There are lots of shops selling jet jewellery too.
I used to go to Devon and Cornwall in the 70s with my parents and sister..always warm!!!
Pamela and I were little, but, good memories!

Kate, I really enjoyed the TV series, despite the gore! It was the book I struggled through. I decided a few years ago that I had not read enough of the classics and this was one I tackled. 'Tackled' is the right word!

Yes, I quite liked the series too. I've not read the book though. Maybe I'll give it a miss?

Such a shame the weather wasn't set fair for your day trip ... but I have enjoyed viewing your photos! Rained most of the day down here ... :o(

Yes, it was a pity Julia, we got home yesterday around 5 and it'd been lovely here all day!
