Recent visitors to the nut feeder.

Yesterday, we spotted a flurry of long tailed tits on the nut feeder. It was really lovely to see! There must have been a dozen or so.
I ran upstairs to grab the camera and hoped they hadn’t flown before I got back downstairs! I took the photos in the snug, which was the best view to capture them. They flitted from the nut feeder to the shrubbery. We were lucky to spot them, as we’d expected them to have already flown south to warmer climes.
Not long after, our resident mouse tried its luck…so, I took a couple of snaps of him too. He visits very regularly 🐭.
I missed the great tits, as they popped along later, once I’d put the camera away. They do visit daily. I did ask OH if the mouse was a field mouse – he replied, looks like a ‘nut mouse’ to me. ☺️

Cute pics Kate. I’ve only had them in the garden once, when we lived in Carnoustie. We got all our best birds there! We had lots of lovely bird visitors there. I hope we will get a few nice ones here too, once we get in the new house. There is forest right in front of the house, so I’m looking forward to that. Our move in date has now been pushed back to February. But it will soon come around once The festivities are over.

Kate, these photos are lovely and aren't those birds a sight for sore eyes? I think the Goldfinches we normally see on the feeders have flown South, just a Robin and a Coaltit seem to be around now.

We usually hear them before we see them, and mice are often sitting in our birdseed bins when we open them (in the garage, I hasten to add!) Great photos, Kate.

Thanks Eileen, that's good to know. I'm hoping they aren't just passing through 🤞
We do see them infrequently, but, they seem to pass through here, stopping for a quick nibble on an insect - never the nuts.
We don't have squirrels, although we've seen an odd one or 2 once in a rare blue moon. We see the odd rat, but that's to be expected I guess, with the bund and us living right next to the Humber.
I do think it's amusing that your neighbours can't correlate visiting rats with living right next to fields galore and that your village is right in the middle of the countryside!!!!

Thanks so much, Julia! I was lucky, time wise, grabbing the camera! The phone just wouldn't have been so good. They are such lovely birds.

Thank you, Karen! I can just imagine the variety of wildlife visitors to your harden back in the far north!!!! It must've been amazing!
I think you'll see a wealth of wildlife when you move in February! It'll be pretty exciting! It's a pity your date has been pushed back, but, it'll cone around before you know it! Sit back and enjoy the festive season meantime.

Kate those snapshots are really special definitely ones for the album - I have to be careful with feeding here because of cats but we have longtail tits passing through the garden and two goldcrests that visit our pine tree - Christmas wishes to you and your family - Jane

Thats brilliant Kate seeing all the long tail tits and funnily enough, my garden was full of them the other day on the fat balls.
I have never seen them here before and haven't been back since.
It was a lovely experience though!

Stunning pics Kate! Just love the long tailed tits, gorgeous little birds. And mousey there, yes I think too it's a wood mouse, great pics of him.

Love your photos of the L T Tits, Kate. They are such busy active little things. Nice that you have a visiting Woodmouse too.

Thanks kindly, Jane. How lovely to have goldcrests!!! Another special little visitor.
Our pusscat doesn't bother too much with the birds..she watches them from the window. She's too lazy to sneak up on them 😺
Have a lovely Christmas with your family 🎄

going by the ears I'd say a wood mouse.
They are cute but not when eating my bulbs grrr.
Long tailed tits tend to stay all year with us and we have found them huddled in a bird box before.
They are gorgeous little things.
do you get squirrels Kate? We have about 5 visiting regularly. As well as rats from the fields. Though the neighbours have rat catchers employed as they are horrified. Not sure why they are surprised as the houses are backing on to fields and farms.
