Hogmanay walk at Hornsea prom

OH and I took a drive to the coast, yesterday, Sunday. The sunshine was intermittent, between dark, threatening clouds. We were fortunate the rain held off until our drive home.
It was chilly, but, wrapped up and walking, it wasn’t too bad at all.
The prom was very busy, like on a hot summer day with everyone out enjoying the day. We felt the odd ones out, as everyone had a dog or 2 or 3 with them. We watched as many dogs ran in and out of the sea, loving the rushing waves!
The pics don’t show too many people, as, I tried to avoid including them where possible.
The tearooms and Fish and Chip shops had people queueing up outside. Some people chose to sit outside of the café bars and have their coffee or food..I would have been too cold to enjoy it.
I guess some people just don’t feel the cold. I noticed some chaps in shorts, albeit in warm jackets.
It was lovely getting out and walking and brushing away the cobwebs of the past year, as were many others I suspect. Probably walking off rhe Christmas excess too!
Last night, bang on 12 midnight – the fireworks started. 25 minutes continuous with no break. It was so loud, it sounded like a million were going off. Our cat was in a right state, bless her. Why can’t they have noiseless ones???
Hope you’ve all enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing start to the New Year today.

we were there this morning, sunny and dry. Again lots of dogs as you say. love the photos.
Lots of fireworks round us but they did seem quieter than normal. Perhaps we are just getting used to them as Lazats set fireworks off most weekends as part of wedding events.

Lovely to be beside the sea at this time of year … thank you for sharing your walk Kate 🙂. x

Thanks for sharing Kate and why is it on the coldest of days some men still wear shorts! Maybe showing a tan off!

Happy New Year Kate. That looks to be a bracing New Year walk.
Haven't been to Hornsea for a while, looks nice..

Missed you by a day, Eileen! Thanks for liking!
We were both lucky with weather both days. Cold but fresh!
Haven't been to Lazaat's for several years now, but, it seems that's fireworks are let off for any reason now! It was just Guy Fawkes night and New Year only when I was young! Plus, it was always an organisation event.

Thank you, Sheila! I agree, it's quite bracing, very fresh and it feels quite medicinal to an extent! Good end to the old year! 🤗 xx

Thanks kindly, Rose. Yes, must agree - why do some men go out in shorts, some are very short shorts, on bitterly cold days? It could be they are showing off a tan..or tattoos or they're plain crazy! Xx

Aw thanks, Janey! Yes, it was a very fresh and bracing walk! I've a friend who lives in Hornsea, I'm often over visiting or going out for lunch or drinks etc. It has lots of very nice eateries and bars. I didn't tell her we were driving over today, it was a day for OH and I to enjoy the long walk and brush off the past year...x

Thanks for sharing your walk with us like the photos, especially the puffin & gull:-). Very windy where I am & also wet, so dying to get out & about. I think the men in shorts have got their legs used to the cold, though why I don’t know. Perhaps they think it is healthy!

Lovely pictures Kate, I'm glad you had some time outdoors :)

I see lots of men wearing shorts here too but I think they're just being blokey and showing off. I wear shorts all summer but in the winter I like to keep warm.

No fireworks here but I agree, they're too noisy.

Thank you, Klahanie. Pleased you like.
Here in the UK, we have groups of people who ritually have a plunge on both Boxing Day and New Year's Day too. Some for charity, it's been quite a historic thing.
It's like your New Year's day event. Thanks for sharing your site, love the Polar Bear Swim!

Thanks for liking, Josee! Yes, the gull and puffin are in the sensory garden. Not much in the way to see or smell or touch at this time of year sadly. Men in shorts!! Obviously don't feel the cold or are hardened to it possibly?
The weather is dreadful! Today, I drove to Gainsborough and then through villages to Scunthorpe..flooding on the roads, fields like swimming pools/lakes!!! Then, near Laughton woods, a white dog ran across the road. Crikey, I had to break hard, thankfully, I didn't hit it! It was a little ahead of me. It ran across and into the woodland. Goodness knows where it came from. Hopefully it's safe now at home!

Hywel, many thanks!!!!
It's good to get out in thevfresh air, wrapped up warm of course!!!! ;-)
Men in shorts in bitterly cold weather, I think you could be right there..being all blokey! Showing off too! Probably hit the nail on the head!

That looks a bracing walk, Kate. Thanks for sharing. We haven't got much further than walking round the estate, but we did do a 3-4 mile jaunt round the fields near us 2 days ago! It's been so soggy you can't really go 'off-road' without disappearing knee-deep in mud!
I'm with Paul - the cloud pics are fascinating. I'm not knowledgeable, so it's good to know what they are! I miss the fen skies...
BTW: Happy New Year.

That's lovely. Thank you, Paul. I'm one who loves dramatic sunsets! So, I think we all have our own 'geek' interests! :-)

Thanks Ange! I think the recent weather has deterred us from getting out there regularly, as you say, sodden wet and driech. I like a crisp, frosty day with sunshine...it feels fresh and re-energising. Plus it may be a little slippy underfoot, but, more enjoyable for me.
Thanks for liking the blog! Happy New Year to you too, happy gardening come Spring!

A lovely, calm atmosphere in your last photo. Let’s hope we all have a calm and peaceful year ahead of us. Very best wishes to you Kate.

Thank you, Chris. It definitely felt quite relaxed being there. Peaceful too, despite the gathering of people and pets.
Thank you for your kind thoughts and wishes. Sending you the very best of sentiments too x
