light green butt

Oh the joys of growing up in central US. The summertime would come and we would play outside until after dark (we had to be in our own yard when the street lights came on) right at dusk you would start seeing the flashes appear. Running over to where you had seen it and waiting for the next flash.
Some would zoom away at high speed while others would appear to be floating in the air and be just a few feet away when they would flash again. The hours that were spent catching lightening bugs were endless. Jars sitting on the porch with 15 to 20 intermittent lights flashing. I never imagined anyone not knowing what a lightening bug was until a cousin came home on leave from the military and told the story of a buddy that had seen them for the first time while well intoxicated (I can’t imagine how hilarious that had to be) “I’m seeing lights!” “Are you seeing lights?” both statements with slurred speech.
Some of the things that some of the kids did to lightening bugs were too cruel for me to even think about doing i.e. killing ten of them…removing the light section and placing it on fingernails so they would glow in the dark. I didn’t catch lightening bugs with that kid anymore!!
But now I have a new pleasant lightening bug story for you. My 3yr old grandson has now had his first experience with lightening bugs. Mommy caught one for him so that he could see that they were good bugs and not scary bugs. So as the conversation is going on my daughter noticed that Aaron was calling it a “light green butt” of course after a chuckle on the inside she clarified the pronuctiation of “light ning bug”
Arn’t they fun and don’t they call it like it is. Because the tail has a greenish hue when not “glowing”
Have a good day!

I suppose a light green butt would be just the thing to go with a green thumb!
Sorry to lower the tone. Lol.

LOL Mobee I can relate to that one. Growing a Mimosa (sensitive plant, tickle me plant) to "entertain the grandbabies" I have it at work right now and am having too much fun showing off its talents.

Never seen a lightening bug either but I've seen a lightning rod LOL and I have seen glow-worms years ago.
What's with the Mimosa? Sounds naughty but nice!

Children do say the funniest things with wide eyed innocence. They are adorable.
