for those who have never seen a lightening bug…
Attempting to show you the “glow” this shows the area that lights up. This particular bug does not have the light green hue.(there are several species of lightening bugs)
still not at full glow and the camera focused on the plant rather than the bug. I will keep trying.
went back out when it was a little darker.
and after about 150 continuous pictures….
I finally got it :)))
I’m also hoping to get a picture in the dark above a field when there are hundreds of intermittent lights going off…don’t know if I can pull it off due to the lights are not picked up by the camera very easily.

actually folks it took maybe ten minutes the second time. when I say continuous I mean hold the button down and snap snap snap snap...
They are very entertaining little bugs and wanted to share the wonder of them. But I have to give up the saint hood because it really didn't take that long.

Great blog on lightening bugs! We don't have them over here so it was good of you to show us the photos you managed to take. Is it very difficult to keep them still or do they wriggle around a lot trying to get free?
8 Jul, 2009
They do wiggle around but with the years of experience that I have had LOL it is not that much of a challenge anymore. The pictures were taken in 3 different photo sessions with 3 different bugs.
