We had a smashing day out at the NEC in Birmingham on Saturday. It was a very long day but worth every aching muscle on Sunday morning! There were heavy showers at times but hubby Jim and I managed to get inside just before it rained each time. I did promise myself that I wouldn`t buy any more Heucheras but of course that went by the wayside when I saw what there was to offer! I did however keep well under budget despite bringing lots of lovely plants home. Then I spent what I had left on two pots from a garden centre up the road…they were very cheap and I DID need them.
Of course I took lots of photos as did Jim, I hope you like them.
The show gardens were really good this year with many of them using perennials and herbacious, my favourite type of plants.
I managed to get into Carol Klein`s question and answer session and even though I didn`t have a question I found it very interesting.
As you can see I was very engrossed.
Jim was really fascinated by these Alliums because of their perfectly round shape and how they stand up without support…defying gravity he said…lol!
This small garden was created by Birmingham City Council.
Heucheraholics plant sale stand where I found Heuchera Mint Julep. I`ve wanted it for some time now.
More lovely herbacious displays.
I think this unusual rose is gorgeous looking and has a beautiful scent. I`ve not checked online yet but I think it must be fairly new. If not I`m going to buy it and if it is, I`ll just have to wait.
Just look at these Hibiscus…stunning!
I really loved this beautiful Clematis.
I`m not usually a lover of Chrysanths but these displays were stunning.
It`s not the best of photos but here are purchases, at least some of them, they didn`t all fit in!
They are:
Heucheras Mint Julep, Pistache, Cherry Cola and Hollywood.
Heucherella Kimono
Astantias Roma and Hadspen Blood
Dianthus Stardust and Deschampsia cespitosa `Goldschleier`. Please wish me luck with that one because I`m hopeless with grasses. I never seem to get the right ones for my garden so this time I hope I`ve got the perfect plant, even though it DID get a bit battered in transit. I`m sure it will recover, fingers crossed!
I also bought a ceramic sun for just £3 that I`ve hung on the fence and two shepherds crooks for a fiver for the pair…I think thats just about it…lol! :o))

Good luck then :o)) I hope it settles in and grows to give a good display.
I liked these gardens. Most were like proper gardens - not to gimmicky (except that green pole one lol)
I'm glad you went and enjoyed and bought all those plants and things. Nice to spend :)

Really enjoyed seeing this show with you, Sandra, but you get a slapped wrist for breaking your promise not to buy any more Heucheras ... lol! Love the shepherd's crooks . . . .

Thanks everyone, it really was a lovely day out, I know you`d all love it. :o)
Shirley, consider my wrist well and truly slapped but I`m afraid its all to easy to succumb when confronted by those gorgeous Heucheras....now where to put them! lol! I do wish I`d bought another couple of those shepherds hooks, they are well made and so cheap. :o)

Could you buy them 'on-line', Sandra? At that price, you'd be mad not to. I don't want to encourage you at all! : o )
24 Jun, 2011
hehehe...well you know me Shirley, I don`t need any encouraging, I`ll go and have a look now...:o)))

Ordered them yet . . . .
26 Jun, 2011
No I didn`t Shirley, they cost £7.95 online which is fine for the pair but the delivery charge is about £7, ok if you want to order several things. I`ll just have to look around the garden centres. :o)

Oh, that's a shame, Sandra. Happy hunting . . . .

Lovely pics Labd, did you get the name of that rose? I always love the main marquee most. I think they get the alliums to stay straight by putting wire up the stems, saw it on a program..sorry to disillusion Jim;-)
