A good day off

Yesterday I had the day off work because I had to have some blood tests. And as my appointment was early morning and the weather fine I decided to spend some time gardening, well all day as it turned out but very satisfying.

At first I wasn`t sure what to do because I`m up to date with most things but as you know, theres always something and as often as not, quite a bit to keep you occupied! Of course I had my camera at the ready to record the best plants.

Heuchera `Jade Gloss`

Heuchera `FireChief`, new this year, small but what a gorgeous colour.

Another favourite of mine, Heuchera `Citronelle` growing in deep shade.

Heuchera `Blackbird`, not looking too bad but getting close to its sell-by date and getting very leggy.

Heuchera `Beauty Colour`

Heucherella `Alabama Sunrise` with Heuchera `Obsidian` behind it.

Mixed Heucheras in a border, Mahoghany, Palace Purple and Gypsy Dancer

Nearly all the Heucheras are doing well apart from a few that were suffering from rust. I removed most of the leaves and treated them with an anti-fungal spray. I lost `Plum Royale` to it last year and am determined not to lose any more. I`ve removed a lot of their flowers so that they will continue flowering through the Summer.

Dianthus `Alan Titchmarsh` and orange geums.

Dianthus and Cotinus, I think they go well together.

I still have a few bedding plants left to but I have very little space left so I might give them to a friend, I`d hate to waste them. On Saturday I`m off to Gardener`s Word Live and have plans to buy more plants…but where to put them?? Hmm, I`m sure I`ll think of something though what I have no idea what…lol! For now I`m just looking forward to the show AND the food show which is next door. …yummy.:o)

I know I`ve recently posted a photo of`Summer Song` but this cluster deserves a second showing.

The same here with `Crown Princess Margrethe`

By the end of the day I was so tired after the day gardening but it was well worth it, even digging up bindweed and ground elder! Now I`m looking forward to Summer proper, it can`t come soon enough for me. :o))

Lovely pictures , and of course I love the Heuchera.

Jade Gloss looks lovely, and I have just got Alabama Sunrise. Mine has a few red veins on it, does yours get those too.

Cinders, the red veins have faded even though its planted in a shady place. Perhaps it needs deeper shade so it can revert back to its natural colour.

Terra, I use either Bayer Multi-rose which in my opinion is better than Rose Clear and Doff Systemic Anti-fungal spray.

What a lovely collection of Heucheras you have Sandra. It's hard to pick a favourite but I do like Jade Gloss as it's flowers seem more conspicuous than other varieties.
It sounds like a very satisfying day in the garden and as for any plants you might (will) buy at GW Live, maybe there's some space freed up by that ground elder and bindweed? If not, well......there's always more pots! Hope you get good results from your tests.

Don't forget about the Spritz shoehorn technique! lol.

What lovely contrasting colours you have - great planting. :-))

Oh dear Spritz, don't tell me that you have to resort to shoehorning with all those huge borders you have! There's defintely no hope for me then. I bought a 'bargain' Acer today, absolutely no idea where it can go, even in a pot! lol

Labdancer, I think the sellers say Alabama Sunrise likes full sun or part shade so perhaps it's not getting enough - sun, that is!
