Glorious Spring and Beautiful flowers...Plus a job I hated doing..

Many years ago when I was young and naïve, I planted some dwarf conifers in my garden, my favourite was a beautiful Rhinegold, unfortunately it didn’t stay as a dwarf, last week we had to bite the bullet and cut it down, it was too close to the fence and although I tried my hardest to keep it in check it rewarded me by filling out and was encroaching over the fence,

As you can see it is towering above the g’house, we have always had a good relationship with the neighbours, I ’d like it to remain that way so my poor tree had to go…

It didn’t really take much cutting down, hubby has fully retired now, he has a magic saw that I’m not allowed to use, he doesn’t like gardening but doesn’t mind that sort of job, once cut into three pieces we were able to fit it all into our trailer, now that was a surprise, we thought it would take two trips, (our nearest one is twelve miles away, the powers that be won’t allow us to have our own even on the outskirts of town, unfair and stupid isn’t it) whilst he went off to the tip I set to and dug the ground that had been hidden by the tree, nothing ever survived under or near it, took a bit of digging I don’t mind saying but I persevered, incorporated some of my homemade compost, scrambled around the garden stealing stones to carry on the edging and then planted it up.

Doesn’t look too bad, the plants will soon fill out and begin to scramble as the rest do, you can see the bare ground that I still have to work over and sow some grass seed, which I’ve forgotten to buy….Typical….
The Hebe looking very sparse and top heavy, is one that I had to cut half away, pleased to say it hasn’t suffered anymore signs of die-back, only time will tell if it will survive ..
My g’houses are filling up with seed trays, tomato’s Cucumber’s, various flower seeds, my Fuschia’s, Pelargoniums and all my Succulents have made it through the winter, you don’t need to see those, lol…
The rest of the garden is having a glorious spring so all is good in my garden..

The Acers all starting to come into leaf, I keep those on the edge of the pond to give them a bit of protection from the wind and hopefully all that glorious sunshine we’re hoping to get over the coming months, the Heuchera pot is awaiting its yearly sort out, a job for another day though..

My Ferns doing well in my stumpery, you cannot see them in the photo but the Hosta’s are also just shooting through, I love the way the moss is growing on the stumpery bit and pieces…

The bed above is not very colourful yet, it was during the winter with Hellebores, soon it will be again as I have Aquilegia’s, Welsh Poppies, Patsy’s Plum, Calendula’s, Golden Rod, Statice, Linaria, and anything else that has decided to seed itself in there…Mr Treeman needs his eyes opening again and as you can see he is going bald, I’m going to give him a transplant, lol…..

Just look at that, our Toffee trying to raid the feeding station, he has never, ever done that before, would you believe it, silly hubby has put something on the tray that is attracting him, we are going to have words…..
Enjoy your gardens folks…..

Cheeky cat, but isn't he lovely. I love Mr Treeman...he is better than any of these 'greenmen' faces you see for sale. He's fab. :)

Sad to see an old favourite go but its surp[rising how soon you get used to the space where it was. The new bed is going to look pretty. What a lovely cat Toffee is! Well named too

Seaburn I have always liked the challenging bits, I know its only a small area but it's good to start from scratch isn't it, I bought a Sorbaria from the GC the other day, I liked the colouring and was thinking I would plant it near to where the tree had been, however when I was reading up on it later, I discovered they are prone to producing suckers, that is the last thing I want down there so I've popped it into a huge pot instead..

Karen Toffee is the friendliest tomcat we've ever had, not an ounce of aggression in him, he has the patience of a saint with Harriet, they are the best of pals but the little madam does lie in wait ready to pounce on him, but then that is the westie way.. I do like Mr Treeman, I've never yet plucked up the courage to try and carve something on the opposite side....

Your garden is looking so colourful your pond looks great and that Red Robin is a beauty stes the other blooms off a treat. Your Toffee is lovely also a lovely colour I can see how he got his name.😊

Thankyou 3d, the Red Robin is fabulous this year, it started out as a shrub but Morgan and Brynner broke it in half in its second year, since then I've been training it as a standard, I only remove two stems a year and I think this year will be the last ones to have the shape correct, its a bit lopsided at the moment..Toffee is a lovely friendly cat, only one we have now so he gets all the attention....

I understand how you feel - a little - Lincs as a few years ago I had to get rid of the 3 golden Conifers that I'd had on the balcony for around 10 years as they contracted some disease & had to go when they didn't recover the 2nd year after contracting it.

The space you have now plated up will look lovely in a few months time! The rest of your garden is lovely, too! 😀
