Cutting back, tidy up and enjoying the signs that spring is coming...

It’s a warm day, no wind or rain, an opportunity to be in the garden, beggar the housework it can wait until it rains.
I spent time cutting back more of the perennials, with my long handled fork which enables me to reach without standing on my beds and borders, I turned the top level over, looks so much better ..
The pampas in the corner of my granite bed in the pic below is going soon, I do like it but its growing so fast and makes such a mess, I have a young plum tree in a pot that is homeless, I’m going to plant it near the fence to the side of this bed and train it as an espalier, well that’s the plan…
Harriet is glaring at me, she received a telling off for taking a short cut through my flowerbed..
The mesh has had to go back in place as the frogs will be moving in soon, the muddy looking clump is blue Irises, they are just beginning to sprout, the Marsh Marigolds are full of buds so it won’t be long now to see the flowers..
All in all I’m happy with the garden…

I'm glad you were able to spend some time in the garden Sue, we've had a full day of rain here.
I like your standard Photinia, I may do the same with mine.
Harriet looks lovely :) x

It all looks very tidy, Lincs, a credit to all your efforts. We couldn't get outside for the last few days because of the rain.

Thankyou Kate, Harriet is typical westie, very stubborn, good at answering back and very, very good at what is commonly known as "The Stare" also spoilt rotten...

It did me a power of good Hywel, surprisingly after all the rain we've had in the last few days, the earth wasn't too claggy at all, its pouring down again now so might be back indoors tomorrow, you are good with standards and lollipop trees so I 'll look forward to seeing that...

all looking wonderful. Raining hear today, but it was so cold in my garden yesterday spent a good while in the greenhouse instead.

It all looks great Sue and I love the way you have created the different islands!
I too love the way you have shaped your photinia , but as mine is so overgrown now, wouldn't know where to start to shape it!
I must tidy it up this year though as it is taking over the shrub border.
I see what you mean about Harriet's stare! It's like " are you talking to me!" Haha!
I wish our days here were warmer and dry ! I am itching to finish my new wild life pond!

Thankyou Seaburn and Rose.
I have a job to do despite the fact that its raining and I'm not relishing the thought, the pump in the fishpond has stopped overnight, that means muggins here has to clean it out, the weather report says rain for the next few days so I will brave the elements and get on with it, why oh why ? didn't it do that yesterday morning..." Sods Law" I call it...

All looking nice & tidy Lincass. I'm itching to do likewise but it keeps raining & is still cold, so I'm holding back & longing for some warmer days.

I don't blame you for that Feverfew, I don't do gardening in the cold unless its an emergency of some kind, I don't like to be huddled up in a jacket..

Your garden is looking very tidy, Lincslass! 🙂 Your Photinia is very pretty & reminds of those planted in big tubs along the pedestrianised High Street in Cuenca when we were last there 5 years ago for my mother-in-law's funeral. Not having been back since then I have no idea how they are getting on or even if they are still alive.

Today my wife had to go for micro suctioning of the wax in her ears. She had the appointment in town that is only separated from us by the Great River Ouse called Godmanchester. It was the first time we have ever visited the clinic there.
In the carpark they have lots of young Photinias! I'll try & upload one of the 2 photos I took of them. They look fantastic!

You’ve been very productive, Sue! All your garden teas re looking in tip top condition, very tidy - and lots of colour to behold too. Your Photinia looks very ‘ornamental’, loving the vivid red on the leaves. Unfortunately, mine didn’t thrive.
Harriet has obviously had some fun today! She’s wondering why you’ve spoiled her day being adventurous!
