Weird and a Warning...

In view of Hywels blog, it got me thinking, plus the fact its raining yet again so I’ve been browsing the site, looking for old friends and when they last posted anything, anyway I’ll get to the point as you don’t know if you don’t ask, has anybody heard from Paul (Bathgate) I haven’t seen anything since last January, he’s still a member.. Also whilst I was at it I looked at the members lists as I was also looking for others, there are loads of weird and wonderful, supposedly new members, all appear to be foreign, no profiles, blogs, queries or pics, so be warned I guess we are going to be inundated with posts that need flagging, one even offers a call girl…

A huge swathe of the members' list is gobbledygook, as I've said in the past. Don't know what they're doing on there or why they aren't deleted.

They are a pain in the proverbial butt Rose..
.......................................................................
Ange they have to become members to get their stupid ads on, trouble is we cannot delete them from that list so have to wait until they actually post a blog, then we flag.............................................................................

M'land I check the questions pages nearly every day, rarely do I answer though, I've learnt a lot over the years simply by following, many of the people on there have been members for a very long time and seem happy to just participate on there...I think because of the pandemic I think the worst when people have just disappeared, especially the ones that always gave an answer albeit often a cheeky one , Paul was a master at that... There is another Paul, I know which one you mean, he had to open a new account when Goy was playing up, cannot for the life of me think of his avatar at the moment but I know I'm thinking of the right person as he does love his conifers...., i'll check back over my blogs because that is annoying me now.

Sue, I have flagged quite a few these past weeks, many from India advertising call girls. I imagine their posts go out to all and sundry on T'Internet!
I have a feeling Paul (Bathgate) took a break when GoY was having issues with uploading photos, plus videos cannot be uploaded, as happens on some other gardening sites.
Sue, I also look at the gardening questions regularly and was actually able to I.D. a shrub for a member today ... that doesn't happen often!

They are a darn nuisance Shirley but at least they don't last long once flagged, perhaps Paul will pop up one of these days then. I've always liked the questions pages, years ago it used to amuse me when people argued over the answers, that never seems to happen now though...

Bamboo used to answer many of the questions ... not seen her on here for some time.

That's right I miss her, hope she is alright, always found her on those pages, very knowledgeable and I liked her straight talking, its usually the same members who answer the questions and has been for years..

I'm another "flagger" maybe because I'm usually browsing the questions early and have answered or added to some but not many and always check the blogs even though I haven't posted a blog update since pre covid but keep meaning to and have taken photos for when I do

Hi Grandad, I have always enjoyed the questions page, have learnt a lot over the years very often without even asking myself, just by following the threads, I know its usually you or Seaburn that get there first to flag those annoying posts, I work my way through them as well whilst muttering choice words that cannot be written on here, although she is going to be very busy this week which is understandable so it will probably be down to you if we get some..
As regards a blog from you if its been that long I'll expect and look forward to a long one, lol, only kidding Grandad...

My blog update, when it comes, is for the car park border where I volunteer, started work on it pre covid & continued during all lockdown, incorporating some ideas & donated plants from GOY members, [Steragram plants, the Lonicera cuttings flourished BTW]
Of course, it suffered from two years of long hot & dry summers but turned out fine, if not a show winner
Now all I have to do is get on and actually put pixel to screen

Last time I contacted Paul he said that he was taking a break from the garden for a while due to other demands. I will send him a PM.

That is so good of you Grandad, lots of places have suffered during the last couple of years, Balcony volunteers in the same way, looks after his local church borders and really enjoys it, I started helping with Stamford in Bloom a few years ago, used to go with my youngest daughter, we had to give it up during the pandemic, now I've decided I'll stick with looking after my own garden, daughter is having problems with her knees so she cannot join them either...

Re Bamboo, I fear she is very far from alright. It must be over 18 months now since she was diagnosed with cancer. At first she decided not to fight it but changed her mind later. I will try to raise her and let you know if she replies.
I think Eileen has been in touch with her too but don't know how recently.

Thanks Stera, its got to be a lot longer than that, I used to chat to her regularly but lost touch, I lost Cathy my sister 3yrs ago and Bamboo was ill way before that, we used to discuss her treatment and her reasoning for refusing more at the time, I couldn't burden her with my loss, to me it would have made things worse for her, seems selfish and possibly stupid now but was the way I was feeling at that time, I always hope she'll pop up ...

I do hope everyone is OK. Worrying to hear about Bamboo. I do hope Sue can find out if she is alright, well, alright as can be. I am sorry I didn't appreciate her illness. Thank you for mentioning.
Sue, I'm sorry to hear you've been poorly and had a fall on top of it all. I do hope you're on the mend, as such.
I did wonder about Paul from the US. I think it was last Christmas time when he posted? I know his Mum was ill and he was looking after her care needs and treatment etc. Hope all is OK with him also! Maybe Loosestrife will be able to find out some news.
Sending best wishes to all of you out there x

Bamboo just answered a question about Clematis Montana placed by Pennyfarthing.

As I have a number of adblockers in my FireFox browser I don't see the ads you speak about! I seldom visit the questions page any longer - unless I have a question of my own - so I don't see these ads from India either.
