Passiflora Caerulea

This is a blog to show a GoY friend my monster, and give an idea of the size they could become. Here we go then Sand.
This is the size on one of the leaves. My hands are quite large. I take a 7/8 in gloves to give you an idea.
This is another leaf. As you can see, it almost covers my hand.
They do twist around the trellis, but I think they only do this when they’re establishing themselves.
This is the thickness of the stem, the plant is about 7/8yr old.
This is the stem of my Clematis. They’re both the same age and they grow side by side. But you can see the difference on the thickness of the stems.
These shoots can be trained anyway you want them to go. Some of these shoots are about 12/15ft at a guess, and they’re not so delicate as a Clematis, so you can pull them around a bit.
This pic is taken from under the trellis. The Passionflower is up in the right hand corner.
This is taken from the other side of the trellis. You can see the density of it. I have this growing one end of the trellis work, and my monster Wisteria the other end.
These are two of the flowers that were open earlier today. Sadly they’ll be gone by morning. That’s the only trouble with them. The flowers don’t last long.
You only get one flower at a time unless you have a few stems growing together. So if you get a cluster of flowers, then you have a number of stems growing side by side. I think I’ve got it right, if not, I stand to be corrected. Hope I haven’t bored you with my (pain in the butt) Passiflora. Lol. If I have, I apologise. Sorry.

Very informative, linda I had no idea they grew large, the flowers are so attractive what a pity they dont last longer, a litle like the Day lilies you wait so long and they have been and gone in a flash.ow ld is your Passin flower Linda?

Thanx both. At a guess Pansy about 7 or 8 yr old. First one we had we lost, Hubby insisted on getting another one. It does get wild sometimes, and I'm not that caring with it. If there's a piece in my way I just give it a yank. Sand, what you are looking at now is all this years growth, I meant to take another pic for you to see how far back we cut it. :o))

This does my head in sometimes. It's living on borrowed time. Lol. I've even tried giving it to the neighbour next door by chucking the shoots over the fence, and hoping it will attatch itself to her side for good. Lol. No such luck, it just keeps shooting more my side Lol.:o))

I have this passionflower growing really well..I only planted it a few months ago and have had up to 6 flowers open up for me at the same time so I guess I am really lucky..It is a shame they don't last long though...I didn't know they grew so big either :-)

I had one of these 'Monsters' outside my front door when I moved in, It was lovely and used to be covered in flowers but far too vigorous and spent most of it's time trying to come inside the house. The stems could grow 1ft in a couple of days so It had to go. I have recently planted one in my back garden where it can rampage away :-))

Think I was saying Linda LL, that I pruned mine really hard last year and thought I had killed it !! But no, it has grown back and looks lovely, however I am going to do the same thing next spring, prune it really hard and see if it grows back again, think they need to be kept in check !!

Thankyou Grandmage, Sand, Pansy and Cristina. I'm ok. Thankyou all for your lovely comments. We already have a puppy. I did a blog when we got her a couple of weeks ago. There is a pic of Scamp and Mali the puppy on there, both laying on the lawn facing each other. I just felt he'd suffered enough and he'd started to get grouchy with everyone. I couldn't take a chance with him doing anything I'd regret, especially with the granddaughter, :o(

Hi Grandmage. Don't know what happened earlier, but I wrote the blog, then had to edit it because one of my pics was missing. When I re-did it, the title was Clematis. Haven't a clue how that happened. Started to read your comment, and blog dissappeared. Think I must have hit delete button. Sorry, only read something about you pruning hard...... missed the rest. Lol.
