Well I never! Didn't know this was here - I must say your cake looks wonderful, good job I'm not there now, there'd be none left. Looks loads better than when I make it, what did you cook it in, Lindalooloo?
Oh forget that, I can see you cooked it in a shallow pyrex dish? How deep, is it?

Rohima, if you go to Sanbaz's home page, she has a photograph of Shirley's Plum cake there - select it, flick through the comments, the recipe's under there somewhere. I stuck it on as an alternative to Shirley's recipe, although actually, I don't know what Shirley's recipe is either, lol! We really could do with a recipe section on this site, it'd be so much easier.

Bamboo, there is a' recipes from the garden' section on GoY ! Click on letter R at bottom of page, select recipes from the garden and there's many to try.

Thankyou for all your comments everyone. It is delicious. Yes Bamboo, I cooked it in a pyrex dish, but the dish was oblong, and a little too big, so I think if the dish had been smaller, then the cake would have been thicker. Not to worry, it came out lovely. Yes Rohima, I had the recipe as Bamboo has said, from Sandbaz's page (shirleys plum cake). I got Shirleys Plum cake recipe as Shirley has just said, from Goypedia at the bottom of the page. There are some lovely recipes there too. Happy eating all. Lol. :o))

Blimey, all this time I've been a member and I never knew there was a recipe section, thanks Shirley Tulip, guess that's where I should have put the recipe then.
4 Sep, 2010
LOL, Bamboo, I spend way too much time on here, looking at all the different categories, so that's how I knew !
4 Sep, 2010
Bamboo think its nice to put recipes on a blog too so your friends can share also put it in the recipe section as well !!

I agree Grandmage. It's nice to try something different. I'm going to make my Mums Somerset apple cake now, ready for my Son-in-Law when he calls later.:o))
4 Sep, 2010
I wouldn't mind your recipe for the apple cake, Lindalooloo - I have one which is fine, but I'd like to know what yours is. I have to say its absolute torture every time I click on this blog, the first thing you see is that delicious plum cake, and I keep subconsciously feeling I'll be having a treat in a minute - until I realise its your blasted cake and not mine, here!
4 Sep, 2010
Please , Please, pretty please can I have your recipes to? The plum cake looks so delichious spelling !!!! My mouth is watering like mad.
4 Sep, 2010
Lol. Bamboo. Made the apple cake earlier, but had to cut into it before I could take a pic. Son-in-law had to work on, so couldn't call, but Daughter has taken his dinner and his chunk of cake home for him, as he's not sure what time he'll be finished, as he is an Officer of the Law, if you know what I mean. :o)) Lol. Great. The plum cakes are Shirleys and Bamboos. If you go to Sandbaz pics, (pic titled Shirleys plum cake) you'll find Bamboos recipe if you scroll down. If you go to Goypeadia (A-Z) at bottom of page and click on R go into Recipes and you'll find Shirley tulips Plum cake recipe. hope I've explained that right if not my apologies, as I've just confused myself writing it Lol' :o))

Great, where have you been?????
4 Sep, 2010
Great, Lindalooloo means Sanbaz, not Sandbaz - but the recipe I gave is under her picture of Shirley's plum cake, towards the end.
And Lindalooloo, you still haven't told me your apple cake recipe.

Sorry Bamboo. Here we go.SOMERSET APPLE CAKE. 4 1/2ozs Margarine. 4ozs Caster sugar. 1 large egg. 8 ozs S.R Flour. 1 Teaspoon Vanilla Essence . 1lb Cooking Apples. Peel and core the apples, and stew until soft with enough sugar to your taste. Melt the margarine, add sugar and egg and mix. Add vanilla essence and mix. Add the flour and mix.... you will find the mix hard to stir now, but don't worry as this is normal. Spoon some of the mix into the bottom of your dish, try and spread it out as best you can. Spread stewed apple over mix. Put remainder of mix over apples, again this might be slightly difficult as mix is quite stiff. Don't worry as it will level itself out in the oven. Cook on approx 160/180 for about 50mins to 1hr. Should be firm to touch, but making sure middle is cooked through. When cool you can cut into slices and eat as it is, or you can serve it with custard etc. Happy eating. :o))

Well, the basics are the same as my recipe, but I don't stew the apples, you use cookers and just peel and dice them and drop them into the mixture and stick in the oven, so that's the difference. You must be able to tell by now that I'm a lazy cook - less work involved the better! Thanks for that Lindalooloo.
