Hiya all, quick update from me, will add pics later….. Rain stopped play here as well, as I have been reading from you all over the weekend. On Saturday I potted up some fab cuttings I was sent by Brian along with my baby fern. All survived being stranded in the sorting office for more days than I would’ve liked, the pear seed that mini me planted also popped its head up in Saturday, with case still intact, so mini me was very chuffed, unfortunately when we went to check up on it tonight, a slug had scaled the table I’ve got my seed trays and pots on….. And had munched clean through the stem :(
Also over the weekend Mini me and I bought 5 climbers and some compost from Morrisons, less than £15!!!! A Virginia creeper and 4 mixed clematis, for the long fence aka " operation back of house" I picked 2, mini picked the other 2, as I cant get fence dry enough to paint it it’s getting covered In plants…… Then realised …. Climbers need to cling to something, so off to Poundland… Only 3 bits of wooden trellis left, so bought some trellis netting, which is attached to fence with a mixture of string and drawing pins…… More permanent fix to be arranged soon! Also got some bulbs and 2 container perrenials from there, and more containers and trays!!!! Back home I potted up loads of seeds and started some cuttings, osteospermum, Livingston daisies, the Livingston daisy cuttings were bits I found when slug hunting, these got wedged in a pot with crossed fingers and look like they are going to make it. These and some honeysuckle cuttings are the first inhabitants of the adopted greenhouse….Visiting them tomorrow so crossed fingers please……I’ve also been hacking away at the triffid hedge…..total mudbath out there now!!!!
BEFORE I STARTED GETTING SCISSOR HAPPY
WHAT IVE REDUCED IT TO SO FAR…….
Out front my containers looking good, dahlia buds almost ready to pop, and the side shoot cuttings ive taken from evening primrose and my lonely phlox are interlopers in the gappy containers, again appear to still be alive….but slugs have been at my lilies, picked another 5 off one plant tonight, so took some more frustration out on the triffid hedge:) have had 3 strawbs now off my plants, had to pull off some very mis-shapen fruit, think weather caused that! Oh, and I have flower stems coming out of my red hot pokers! They look a bit odd tho! Should be able to add pics tomorrow. Final thing…….. Jeyes fluid, bought it and love it!!!!! Have done greenhouse, and my single glazed conservatory/sunroom :) magic stuff…….never heard of it before coming on here!!!!! Can’t get smell off my hands though!!! I’m off for a cuppa and do house work before hubby comes in and susses I’ve been messing about in garden all night!

I liked the way you fixed those trellises ... you sound like me. I once fixed a trellis to a post with selotape lol. It lasted for years and I never got round to putting the screws in. The trellis rotted away before the selotape did :D

Magna, your blog really make me smile!!! Gosh you have been so busy and are making really good progress, I cant believe you have never heard of Jeyes Fluid.... it brings back memories of being a child to me, my mother would use it on absolutely everything, every single day, I am sure she would have used it on us too if she could have :)) Your cuttings sound as they are coming along nicely, I wish I knew how to take cuttings, I am supposed to be doing a clematis cutting for my neighbour but I have not got a clue, I think I will just buy him one and pretend :)) If you want any cuttings from me, just say so and I will try for you..... Oh by the way, I love those clematis from Morrisons, I have found with mine that as they are very young the slugs will unfortunately love them so make sure that you give them as much protection as you can.

Yes mini me is my daughter Megan, she is four and a half, I call her mini me as she is my spitting image, and like me loves books and gardens, I'm teaching her plant names at the mo, her gran, my mum in law, who has never had a garden, watches her for me a few days a week when she's not at nursery..... She asks granny to take her walks to see pretty gardens and hits out with, oh grab look at that peony, and that snow in summer etc!!!! There's a pic of her in one of my blogs I think x back to greenhouse tonight, keep the fingers crossed!! I am getting a little bit done each night in between downpours, but I need to keep on top of it as I've got soooo much to get done!!

I am full of admiration for you, Magna! And well done for the drawing pins - it's just the sort of thing I still do! And as Hywel says, it's amazing how long quick-fixes can work. G K Chesterton said - "If a thing's worth doing, it's worth doing badly" ! Not that I am suggesting you are doing anything badly, you understand. But it is always worth having a go with whatever is at hand! Your garden will soon be transformed, and you will be able to look at it and say "I did that!"

Had a right chuckle here over the Jeyes, I use it to clean the drains in my dog area and know how strong it is and also how the smell lingers. You are really getting stuck in and enjoying it as well which is great, your hedge will be all the better for having a big chop, its surprising how much difference it makes and it will soon green up again.
Megan sounds delightful and lets hope she continues to share your passion for the garden as she grows, I think its lovely to see a child growing things, even if it does turn out to be a weed, sunflowers were always a must with my kids and my grandchildren and runnerbeans started off in jamjars with a piece of blotting paper and obviously water, lol.

I still start my runner beans off like that, Lincslass!!
