Big decisions, will I,wont I ?

Well,I did and feel pleased how this area has turned out.The first photo shows the front corner bed where the humongous Cistus was growing. Parts of it were turning brown and it seemed to dominate the whole bed.
My son offered to help, infact he did it all, so kind of him, first with a trimmer and then a pick….the area was crying out for a few compact shrubs + a florabunda rose. The GC had a good offer of 6 Hidcote Lavenders for 12.99…a good size too. I continued the original drive Lavender border around the front edge.4 bags of bark were laid over the area to prevent weeds appearing.I also removed the blue pole….with the Cistus gone it seemed to be too prominent. All in all a good job done.

That was a job well done Julia. it looks lovely. Lavendar is such a lovely plant, sadly I dont like the smell.

Its nice when family help you out. Neither of my girls are really into 'heavy' gardening.

Thank you so much Eileen..I do appreciateOwen's help..his end of year Uni exams are over so he had time...I think it's improved the corner .I enjoyed choosing the shrubs and planting.Do you remember me asking you about the Lithodora?
I decided to move it to this area where it can be seen more.

It looks wonderful, Owen has done a fab job. Lovely mixture you have.

Me and my nephews use to help do my Mums garden for her she was quite patient with us because we couldn’t envision what she wanted so it must of been frustrating for her when she was saying a bit further back no not there over there and so on lol.

Good work done there by Owen. I think it's good to be ruthless with planting schemes sometimes. It usually leads to better results if we're brave (or foolhardy)!

Well I don't know how you had the courage to be ruthless, but it does look good now. That corner always does look lovely but you made the right decision. I hope the lavenders do well.

It usually takes a few pondering days before I make the decision Stera,Cal and Ange.Of course there have been a few mistakes.I'm very much one for change.Thank you for your comments.

I agree you have made the right decision Julia, I can ponder for ages on big changes, sometimes over a year so as to picture how an area will look over the seasons, once my mind is made up things have to go though.
I can see the sun is shining in the second shot which obviously makes a difference, even so, removing that huge shrub which was overwhelming, has lightened up the corner completely.
Jobs a good'un mum is pleased, well done Owen....

Ah,thanks Lincs...actually I was pondering over it whilst in bed!! Like you when my mind is made up it's all steam ahead...poor Rich if he hears me say again 'I was thinking ' I think he will run away!!!
So good to have a strong 💪 helpful son to help though...

What an improvement. Isn’t is satisfying to look back and see all the hard work that has been achieved?

I will admit I didn't do the initial removal but thereafter did the rest.A few years ago I would have been up for it.

It looks great Julia and even better when you can have family to help!
Unfortunately my son lives too far away, but he is not into gardening!

You've definitely achieved a wonderful result here, Julia. Looks very beautiful. Owen has really worked his magic with you and he carrying out teamwork! I have to say one of my favourite plants is lavender! It’s the Francophile in me ☺️

Thank you Kate...a job that should have been done years ago..Lavender is special isn't it...I always choose Hidcote...it does stay compact. The border where the original ones are planted is a very dry area.
