Making my wall

Just thought I would add these pics about constructing my stone wall. I hope you find them useful in using all the stones that are lying around and dug out of the garden. :-))

I placed a few layers of membrane under a chicken wire ‘cage’ and gradually filled with stones.

So many stones from around the garden !

When the stones were high enough I threaded wire through to join the two ends together. I placed cane edging between the soil and stones to prevent the soil washing through the stones

I planted it up with Hostas and Heuceras.

I then laid a gravel path in front edged with logs. An inexpensive wall and no trip to the tip to get rid of the stones !!!

That's brilliant! We live on a mountain and so have stones in every turn of the earth and are always looking for ways to use them. This could make very useful raised beds for veggies. I've seen quite high walls here made from wire cages filled with large stones and they look quite impressive. It's obviously cheaper to build a wall that way then to pay an experienced stone-waller - probably a talent that's becoming obsolete now anyway. Well done on your wall! A very clever idea! :o)

Wow ! What a lot of lovely comments :-))) Thank you ! Stroller the tree you asked after is a Stellata , I have highered the canopy to allow more light under it and I tend to trim it when necessary to keep it tidy. It must be in my genes Nariz - my Grandad was a Master builder and could do dry stone walling. lol. :-)

Hi, that wall looks so professional, love your garden and the way you have lifted the canopy of your tress and shrubs, really lovely.

Thanks Dotty, the wall has certainly tidied the corner up and I like to keep the ground so that there is as much light as possible and so that I can get underneath to weed .
