Powis Castle Visit

A small group of us from the local village garden club recently visited Powis Castle so I thought you might like to take a look around with me….
Setting off to the gardens below the castle
Looking back across the courtyard towards the gift shop and restaurant entrances and then around to the imposing entrance of the castle itself
From the starting point a stunning view across the grounds to the countryside beyond…and a busy young gardener off to his next plot!
The terrace with it’s arched area and striking statues
A Smoke Bush adding contrast to the shrubs on the pathway
Erigeron tumbling over the rocky bank – how dainty!
The pergola walk across the lawns with the Black and White NT holiday cottage on the right
A lush Herbaceous border on the edge of the lawn
A shady area around the pond
Now just some of the beautiful flowers…..it’s alright I’m not going A to Z!
Acanthus
Abutilon
Fuchsia – Hywel just for you!
Aeonium
Finally A Peahen and her chicks, they were really tiny and trotted around all day long, ten steps to their Mother’s one I’m sure!
The fabulous cloud cut Yew Hedges – added after a reminder from Drc!
Hope you enjoyed your stroll.

Fascinating place Neelan, the gardens are a delight, trees and shruns in different shades make a vista special, in the beds and borders too....so much to see.....
I loved the pergola walk, looked a bit like a living viaduct
did you do a tour of the castle, wondered how old it was......

Neelan we went this afternoon!!! On our way back from Staffordshire to Pembs we were going near Welshpool so stopped off. We went round the castle and it was amazing - the most interesting we've been round. And the gardens were wonderful in spite of the steps. Thank you so much for your blog because without it we probably would never have thought of going.
