I had several on my Rudbeckias this afternoon.

This looks lovely on your rudbeckias . Haven't seen any for a few days now. The sedum spectabile is only just opening so I hope it isn't getting too late for them :(

There were lots of butterflies around this afternoon - Peacocks, Small Tortoiseshells, Garekeepers and several unknown ones - but no Red Admirals at all - I still haven't seen any.

I was surprised that they liked the Rudbeckias - but they were also on the Verbena bonariensis near the Rudbeckias - maybe they just wanted a change? lol.

That pic is just something else, I have never seen that Butterfly before, how perfect is he? The only ones I have had in my garden this year have been the Peacock, Red Admiral and the one I wasn't sure was a Cabbage White or Brimstone. I tell you what I have seen which astounded me....bats! I was sitting on the front doorstep one warm night last month around 10-ish and at first I thought they were birds, but it was too dark and their flights were erratic. I stayed for an hour, I am on a main road although we have a huge grass verge and really didn't expect to see them here. I've seen them on a couple of warm nights since then.

We live in a very old house - and are officially 'batty'!! LOL. They are in the roof space. They often flit around at dusk, and they're wonderful to watch! Nice to know that they're around, isn't it.

stunning pic Sprtz. very kind of it to pose in the flower for you....

It was quite funny, chasing it from flower to flower! I had to lean into the clump of Rudbeckias at a perilous angle...nearly an 'ooops!'

mine are very camera shy.......;-))

Oh, I agree - I creep up and IF it's sunny, I keep my shadow off them. They seem to know there's a camera pointing at them , even so, and OFF they go! lol.

Thanks, Tt. None around today, of course! I wonder where they hide when it's pouring with rain??
2 Sep, 2009
I reckon they find nice dry places beneath your shrubs :o)

I'd really like to know - I wonder if Toto or Bb know?? Or if one of my wildlife books would have the answer?? Keeping out of the rain would seem to be vital, I would have thought...
